i am very much against rogues luring.

the concept seems like it would work. rogue gets protect buff from tank, which transfers a portion of the rogue's aggro to the tank. rogue goes and shoots a bunch of mobs and leads them back to the pt, where the tank - who already has some of the rogue's aggro to start with - taunts them in and holds them.

in theory the concept is elegant.

in practice, when rogues lure, the party turns into one massive disaster of quotas and fences spewing yellow numbers into the air, and 9/10 times you look up to see an int getting up off the ground in oblation. rogues cannot hold aggro (nor could they survive for long even if they could), and a tank's taunts can only grab so many at one time, with a cooldown between them. by the time they are able to get off a 2nd round of taunts, the lure that the rogue has brought back has already surged over into the party, where it: a) focuses on the cleric immediately, who has had to spam heal the rogue for his return trip since he doesn't have enough pdef to tank the hits (unless his tanks are smart enough to screen him), b) slaughter the wizards, who have targeted the mobs before a tank could suck them in, hence recieving 100% of their aggro and even being difficult for a tank to pull OFF of them once they CAN taunt the mob, or c) the best case scenario, no one dies, but the mobs are scattered all over and through the party, making it impossible for the tank to keep them all together for the wizards to demolish, but instead having to zip from mob to mob in a futile attempt to keep them ALL from hitting ints.

i have partied with people who insist on having xbow rogues lure, and to be honest i try to avoid it at all costs. i am a tank. it's my job to make sure that NO mob EVER hits an int. if the actions of another party member are making that impossible for me, then the party is not working to its full potential. the only way in which a rogue luring can NOT be a disaster is if there are two tanks BOTH spamming taunt, and now we have a party that has one les int than it perhaps should, hence killing slower. what good are large lures if it takes longer to take them out?

dagger rogues are great, as long as they are intelligent enough to be able to monitor whether or not it's save to have DD on. the right dagger rogue is almost like an additional tank in the party, able to pull mobs off of ints due to their high and fast damage. but the best rogues i have partied with so far are, regrettably, the ones who just simply used their subclass. exceptions include donkyle and YuffieSama, but for the most part i would much rather do without.

spoken as someone who has a lvl65 xbow/dagger rogue on Xian :P

Is this true for Chinese bow as well? Forget about the general problems with Chinese in euro parties, I just want to know how to be most useful when I am lucky enough to be in a well-operating party.

When the party is fighting mobs my level, I have no problem luring up to 8 mobs w/o sharing any damage. When we party against mobs up to 10 levels higher, I can lure single party mobs and tank them while the warrior lure is out collecting, giving the party something to do in the meantime. Even if I lose the aggro, the mob is dead long before it gets anywhere (I'm ice so the mobs are almost always slow, if not frozen).

Maybe this is just making the best out of a bad situation, but it seems to have worked well the few times I've been in euro parties.

The trick is to 1. have the rogue run away from the party and start luring and 2. have the Wizards watching for the mobs. They will all come in chasing the Rogue, usally in a cute little school house line. The Wiz's select a PT mob in the middle and zap with AOE ice, then Earth, then light if nesseary and repeat. This will genrally kill off all the reg mobs (40% of the dragged mobs) and just leave you with pt mobs. It works really well if everyone is waiting for the drag and the Wizards start hitting long before the mobs are dropped in your lap. As soon as the Wiz switch to the Light KB aoe the tanks can run out and agro.

It is all about timing it right. If not, then you get the big mess your talking about. To be honest sometimes when you time it well you still get a little mess but the 7 or 8 times it worked and you got 20 mobs per pull, make up for any "timing errors" solved with oblation! lol :D

nah, trick is to be a 7x and have a protect with either 51% aggro absorb or 54% aggro absorb.

and in practice, if the tank and rogue both work together well it works. I've personally done it before with around 7 different rogues off the top of my head. 4 of them I have to say were horrible and I made them get bard sub.

Hinamori, PureStr (now a tank) and Izeria (no longer active) were the good ones who lured at a smart thought-out pace. Took them a few tries to get it right. (beavers a boob)

If they show potential for judging how fast/slow to lure, the rest can be taught.

.... but dd makes the daggers 10 times more usefull just lend a quota, and with dd i can help keep agro off the ints, with out killing myself plus the extra dmg out dealing the wizzards on the particular creature i'm focusing on, it makes me 10 times more usefull in a party, maybe next time lend a buff to some one who is going to get the shit beat out of them, you can keep the fences and other quota on the int, but with 2 tanks thats 8 buffs possible is it so unreasonable to give one of those 8 to a rogue

Its a bloody fun build, don't let any one get you down on your choice to use it, just beware that before you choose it that you wont' get as many parties as if you had chosen warrior, though it is frustrating i was well aware of that when i made superdonut, and any who has partied with donut knows i know how to make him usefull

i have only, in 66 lvls of euro party grinding on venus, been that confortable in ONE group of people, with whom i can't seem to be able to party with much lately. it NEVER happens. there is too much left to chance, especially when a warrior can lure JUST as many, tank twice as well, and keep the "oblation" incidents remarkably lower.
