Hey there, I'm finally getting around to buying a 360. I know I know, about time. Better late then never thought. Anywho, I'm torn between buying a new one or a refurbished one with like a 1 year warranty.

I like the idea of a refurbished one cause if anything goes wrong I can just take it back to the store, *Gamestop*, and they'll fix it or give me a new one for a year. Plus it'd be quite a bit cheaper. I worry though about it's durablity. Like what if it dies on me shortly after the warranty is up?

So yeah, what should I do? Are my fears of it dying on me, prematurely, after the warranty is over silly? Or what?

Also, I don't intend to save/install a bunch of games, or put music, movies, or w/e on the 360. And I'd rather not spend a fortune on a 250 GB memory. So what size would be ideal for me?

If you are truly not going to store games ( one of the 360 biggest selling points ) I would suggest just going ahead and getting the cheapest you can find, not much really to it. Also if possible try to get the new model as the old ones have proven themselves to not be a reliable piece of hardware.

Refurbished, I have a new and refurbished they both work the same. Ask what motherboard it has Jasper has the least chance for RRoD, but with warranty you don't gotta worry much about it i guess. As for the memory if you want to install games, or movies onto your hdd then yes if not 4gb is enough.

No 4Gb is NOT enough lol.
You never have enough space =[ I rarely play my xbox anymore and when I got Reach I noticed I only have like 10% free space. Deleted everything I didn't need like Trailers and shit pics, still need bigger HDD. If you are planning on playing xbl and multiple games, get 250gb. if you don't think you'll play it much, get the 4gb and you can upgrade later if you are dying for space.
My brother had to buy a 500GB and stick it in his Ps3 lol

If you're going for a Slim model (Which I don't recommend because they're glossy. And glossy = fingerprint and scratch hell), get anything larger than the Microsoft's 4GB Xbox 360 slim model, for reasons like this.

Get at least 20. It's still not a lot, but it works for me. You'll have to juggle with space every now and then, but as long as you don't play 92314792437 games in the same period you'll be fine. If you feel you need more space, the 360 now supports USB devices, which enables you to use most of those USB sticks you have wandering around as a HDD. Maximum capacity for USB is 15 or 16 GB, so don't bother getting anything bigger than that. Installing a game is around 6~8 GB.

When I bought my 360 2 and a half years ago, I too was worried about its durability. However, if you don't play on it too long, and install every game you want to play on the HDD (this so the 360 doesn't have to use the disc drive constantly, it reduces rising temperature and loading goes faster).
I protect mine from dust with a cover whenever it's not on, and in those 2.5 years I've never had a single problem with it.

Also, the latest 360 models have different chips that make the chances of RRoD even slimmer. I don't know about the Slim model, heard some complains here and there about it overheating, but then again I hardly think that'll be a problem if you play for decent periods.

Eww scratches. What if I got the regular 4 GB one with the tougher cover, then bought the extra memory?

Anyways, thinking about either this one, http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Pro-Wireless-Controller/dp/B001F0D1AA/ref=sr_1_32?ie=UTF8&qid=1286039610&sr=8-32

Or this one, http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Elite-120-Console-System/dp/B000PD0HQE/ref=sr_1_20?ie=UTF8&qid=1286039774&sr=8-20

I only worry slightly because a lot of people ended up getting broken 360's. :nowant:

I may just go to my local gamestop and talk about it with them and see what I can get.

I would just get the 250 gig, maybe later you want to install games etc. Having the extra space for DLC and stuff is always handy too.

The old hardware they used is why so many were breaking down, they rushed them out. Id get a new one to be safe however. And 20gb as RuYi said worked for me. I got a 250gb drive with the Elite, and im no where close to filling it. Even the 20, i was somewhat close after playing stuff for 2+ years. 20+ will be sufficent.

the main problem for xbox's breaking is because the amount of dust can get into the system and cause overheating.

if you dust your xbox every month you shouldn't get a red ring for a long time. unless the person who had it before you didn't take good care.

also if you are getting it at gamestop ask if any modifications have been done to it. like ask to see the microsoft sticker.

Get the 1st one. Unless you buy tons of games and install them all you likely won't need over 60gb, and I have that same xbox, except maybe the motherboard is different. Atm I still have 27.6gb left and I install all the games I buy, and usually I only buy the big titles of the year like CoD, Halo, EA games, and I also trade-in so if I never play it I get some money and I can delete the game off my hard-drive.
