hmmm. I think we gotta be a little cautious here.
First off, it's not the original guys making it. Ensemble got disbanded by Microsoft after the release of Halo Wars. Over time they've branched in different studios, the most well-known one being Robot Entertainment (which did the AoE Online game iirc)
This time around the game is being developed by Relic, the guys behind the Company of Heroes. We know they can make good games, we know they can make 'em bad too. Their style does differ a bit from AoE though.
Judging from the teaser's lines at the end:
"Together, we have battled through history. Now a new age is upon us"
I'm guessing we're moving on to the next era, the modern age.
Image from an old artbook, apparantly.Luckily for us, it is at least a time period Relic has good experience with.
After the announcement of Age IV, I reinstalled Age III and realized just how user unfriendly the game actually is. Starcraft definitely changed the playing field with many of its quality of life changes. The UI needs some cleaning too...
Anyway, I'm very hyped, but try to keep it to cautious optimism.
Age of Empires IV will definitely feel different from the previous entries. A lot of time has passed and expectations have also changed.
