Actually there was an article where a couple people were complaining about the game being racist since you're shooting mostly black people.

here it is. I thought it was funny lol.

Quote:
US, February 10, 2009 - The videogame industry has seen its share of controversy, almost all of which centers around sex and violence. It's a rare thing for a game to be labeled as potentially racist. But that's what it's come to for Capcom's Resident Evil 5. The potty mouth of the main character Chris Redfield isn't an issue nor is the excessive blood and routine decapitations. What's drawing the ire of many outside the industry (and raising the eyebrows of some within it) is who you kill in RE5.

Set in Africa, because (as revealed in Resident Evil: Code Veronica) that is where the Progenitor virus originated, your primary targets are native Africans. With the release of the first full RE5 trailer in 2007, numerous journalists and social commentators raised concern that RE5 depicted Africa as a nation of savages and that the game itself would reinforce unhealthy stereotypes. When Resident Evil 5 releases this March, those concerns won't subside.

I've played the first half of RE5 and through those three chapters gamers spend a good majority of time shooting people with dark skin. There are moments that some will never connect with racism, but that others will see as clear use of racist iconography.

The game begins with Chris Redfield walking through an African village that appears uninfected. He sees some men kicking something in a sack. The implication is that even before the infection, these are bad people. If RE5 were set on another continent and these characters had white skin, no one would give it a second thought. Typical "village full of bad guys" gaming clich?. But these characters are black. And as such the imagery can be perceived to have racist undertones. Later, there is a cutscene depicting a white woman being dragged into a house by an infected black man. In its recent hands-on, Eurogamer criticized this moment in particular for playing into traditional racist fear-mongering. To propagate fear of blacks from the time of slavery and through the Civil Rights movement in the United States, white society was warned that big black men are coming for your daughters.

The demo has a lot of bugs.
That might be becuase it is a demo 8)

Im black i never really thought of it as racism... They taking it a little to far lmao. Set in Africa, so there is usually dark skin ppl in africa...no big deal...

The controls are very sluggish like for the inventory the game doesnt pause, try giving your partner rifle ammo while a mofo with a big ass axe is chasing you. LOL GF.

Game is neat, liked it, very good graphics, but it's in Africa, broad daylight. Kind of hoped it'd go back to the scarier scares like the classic games. I guess I'll get used to it again, though, everything else seems right about this game. Gonna play this one in co-op with a friend after I finished the story solo first.

There were some complaints about the watermelons as well. It just keeps getting funnier and more ridiculous by the second. Good game though

I got it on the 12th, instead of the 13th, great game. I only played the demo shortly, so I can't really compare the both too detailed. I got the controls on default settings, only changed aiming speed to fastest. The controls don't bother me, though. You can't run 'n' gun, but it was already known and is typically RE. On the 360, you can assign items/weapons to the d-pad to select them quickly without using the standard inventory. I don't know if it already was there in the Demo, but you can set Sheva to cover or attack. Game's made for co-op, though. :)

Sounds good! How's the movement/speed? Any auto-run? *Thinks* Was aut-run in RE4..? I can't remember and I played that game so much lol xD Anyway, sounds awesome, thank for the info RuYi! ^^

I can't remember either lol. I played nearly all the RE games but I often mix the controls with the SH games. I really can't recall if they had autorun or not.

RE5 has no autorun feature, regardless of what control type you pick, it's always A + LS. (I got it on the 360, no idea what's it for PS3) Speed is okay, it's not too fast, but not something that bothers me too much. Wesker in Mercenaries mode will make up for that.

Sounds good, I'll have to pick up a copy along with Gears of War 2. Thanks again ^^

I still have to get Resident Evil 5. But I managed to get the demo last night. It's spectacular, that's the only thing which comes to mind. I managed to get accustomed to the controls quite fast since I also played RE4. The Chainsaw man is pretty easy to kill if you aim for his eye with the pistol and the rifle. Use the surrounding explosive barrels and shoot the fallen generator to give him a nice zapping. Lob a few grenades at him when he's stunned or give him a nice uppercut when he's stunned if you want to do it in style. I had more trouble with that cloaked Axe guy because of his combo attacks, I got hit once before I figured out his reach and the speed of his swings. But I am picking this up no matter what.

I really want to get this game, or Fallout 3. The only thing keeping me from buying this game is that you can't run and gun :(

I don't know if you played any of the other RE games, or other games that don't support run and gun, first time I played such a game, it annoyed me to bits. But trust me, you get used to it really fast, and within no time it doesn't bother you anymore.

I browsed through some of the game's guides and youtube videos. And I have to say I am really impressed with the sheer amount of weapons and extras available. They really stacked that very well in this game. Combined with the unlockables and achievements it's really worth aiming to complete it for the full 100%. I also love the little details in the game's control scheme, pressing down hard on the Square button makes chris kick open doors and gates. Handy when some unsuspecting foe stands right behind it, lining them up for a nice stomp on the head when they lay on the floor. Or luring a bunch of enemies behind it then rushing in and kicking the metal door in their faces. :3 And pressing it slightly will allow some sneaky peaking inside and possibly a nice stealthy head shot with the rifle followed by a 'nice shot!' from Sheva.

I also like the co-op mode and assistance you get from Sheva. I've never been that interested in escort missions, guess I'm to selfish to constantly be aware of my buddy's safety. *A tucked away thought of Ashley from RE4 creeps up.* But Sheva has some very good A.I and possibly the best A.I yet. She can take care of herself and assist you with ease, she also searches out her own ammo supply, health items and doesn't whine constantly. This form of assistance and mutual melee aid in tight spots has made me very hopeful for future co-ops. The Melee system looks stronger and better intertwined as well this time. So I will be using that more often this time around. You can really enjoy this game with a buddy who knows what he or she's doing. It has completely renewed my opinion and expectations about co-ops.

Do want.

Been playing it with a friend online and got to basically near the same level where the demo ends. Definitely am enjoying it, it is tough to get used to not moving when you shoot as some say. But at the same time, it makes you have to really think more carefully. Also makes you more cautious with your ammo supply i think then wildly gunning as you run in circles. I've never had a Resident Evil game, and think I prolly lose out on some things I might appreciate more with this one, but I still really like it. Very nice change of pace compared to Left 4 Dead or even CoD WaW's type gameplay. (not that i dont love theirs :P )

Well I received my copy of the game a few days ago, and it's the most played PS3 game I have. :P I love it with a passion. I managed to collect most of the weapons on my first run through and upon completing it I unlocked Chris's and Sheva's alternate costumes. ^^ ( I am really liking Sheva's clubbing outfit) and Chris's second outfit has to grow on me a bit, but it's not bad I guess. I did manage to fully upgrade the Magnum revolver and the H&K Machine Gun on my second run through collecting treasures and replaying chapters over and over again. And now that I have infinite ammo on those 2 weapons, taking those mini-bosses out is considerably easier, allowing for some serious money farming. I will go for the S&W M500 Magnum (Hand Cannon) next. I also got the Gatling Gun for Chris just for the fun of it. On a side note: Chris Redfield is now Chris Roidfield? Those arms..

Oh, and Excella Gionne > All.
