They don't make anything at all for gamecube anymore. The store I work at still has 2 or 3 GCs and we can't even sell them. Nobody buys the stupid thing.

thats the sad part about consoles, you have to keep buying new ones every couple years. I remember that people thought that the gamecube was the shiznit, now nobody cares thats why im afraid to buy one even if my parents offer to buy it for me

I don't know where you're from, but afaik, GC was never considered the "shiznit."

well among my peers during the time it came out, it was supposed to be amazing, especially with super smash melee coming out on it. Now none of my friends care about it. In fact, a couple of friends who got the wii are already saying that their sick of it and want something new -_-

Study: Surgeons warm up with Wii

Gaming research is a growing field, and though the conclusions reached have run the gamut from promisingly positive to damningly negative, it seems there are always more studies from both ends of the spectrum just around the corner.

This week's entry in the former category comes from New Scientist, which is reporting on a new study that suggests playing Wii games helped doctors score higher on certain aspects of a surgical training simulation.

Kanav Kahol and Marshall Smith of the Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona, took eight doctors in training and had them play games for an hour before performing a virtual surgery. Those who played on the system tested 48 percent higher on tool control and performance in the simulation. Those who played games that require precise movements, such as Kororinpa: Marble Mania--in which a player tilts the Wii Remote to move a ball around in-game levels--saw more improvement than those that let players succeed with broad gestures like swinging a tennis racket.

Video games are 'Satan's Sudoku'

In a recent column, titled "Xbox is crack for kids", The Times columnist Janice Turner blames the growing popularity of entertainment for a lack of quality family time in society.

Turner takes her disapproval to another step, singling out games as public enemy number one. She writes, "These are Satan's Sudoku, crack cocaine of the brain. Even the crappiest cartoon or lamest soap teaches a child about character, plot, drama, humour, life. Playing video games, children are mentally imprisoned, wired into their evil creators' brains.

"Just every so often, when I'm sick of their sallow, supine bodies and the way the smaller one clutches the backless remote controls like holy amulets - even taking them with him to the loo in case his brother seizes power - I switch off their favoured doom-porn, Air Crash Investigation or Anatomy of a Grizzly Attack, and try to boot them outside. Only to see them graze idly at the computer instead," she added.

The commentary has, not unexpectantly, received a backlash from some pro-game readers on the site who have voiced their opinion below the story.

"Ahhh videogames. The source of all evil. Again. I'm guessing Janice you've never ever played one. I regulate my kids TV time very strictly - about four hours a week presently. But I let them play Super Mario Galaxy (as part of that time). It is a joyous, wondrous world of colour and fun and inspires them to draw pictures, write stories and play 'Mario' outside," said Marcus from Nottingham.

Rockstar baffled by High Court ruling

Yesterday marked the latest episode in the almost year-long saga to try to get controversial horror action adventure game Manhunt 2 released in the UK. A judgment made in the High Court ruled that the Video Appeals Committee, which had granted the game an 18-certificate release in the UK, should reconsider its decision.

The crux of the decision rested on the interpretation of the word "harm," which the BBFC argued had been misinterpreted, resulting in an error of law.

Rockstar Games has hit back at the High Court's decision, which took place over a full day in the Royal Courts of Justice yesterday. The company states that it believes the game--which has already been released in the US--should now simply be released in the UK as well.

The company's statement said, "We believe the VAC decision was correct and do not understand the court's decision to expend further public resources to censor a game that contains content well within the bounds established by the BBFC's 18-plus ratings certification."

No...rockstar are not giving the industry a bad name at all, its the BBFC and the
high court who know look like children crying and screaming that they didnt get their
own way.
I mean seriously this game isn't even that good anyway, and you can see more gore in
films like SAW 4 and TV shows...so why ban it? well to make an example of course and
yet again those Farking morons at the BBFC don't realize that by banning the game its
them who made it into a big thing...ultra violent game...try more like lame and boring.

Funny thing is if they just realized this game in the first place it would of vanished
into obscurity.

New 120-160GB PS3 to rumble with DualShock 3?

Popular tech site
Ars Technica's Opposable Thumbs blog. The same website that successfully uncovered the $399 40GB PS3 bundle (this looks not bogus) have come forward and are now saying that Sony is phasing out the 80GB version and will replace it with a new configuration with a larger hard drive--either 120GB or 160GB. The new console will come with the new rumble-enabled Dual Shock 3 controller, which Sony said would be available in North America and Europe this spring. (The controller is already available in Japan.)

While some out there my find this fake, keep in mine that the electronics giant also tweaked the PS3's configuration, discontinuing the 20GB and 60GB models in favor of 40GB and 80GB editions.

Sony cuts PS3 sales forecast

According to Bloomberg,
Sonys operating profit will be 410 billion yen (approximately $3.85 billion), below the five percent margin that Sony had previously targeted. It is also significantly less than the 444.7 billion yen previously estimated in a compilation of 19 analyst predictions by Bloomberg.

The reasoning behind the cut according to Sony is the stronger yen, and a lessening of demand from the US, with the fallout from the sub-prime mortgage market having put the dampeners on spending in the country.

At a press briefing held in Tokyo, Sony chief financial officer Nobuyuki Oneda told reporters, "The sub-prime problem didn't have much impact on our year-end sales, but it may start affecting sales toward the spring. We cannot rule out the possibility that consumer spending in the US may be hit."

He also added that every single yen change to the dollar exchange rate affects Sony's operating profits by six billion yen a year.

Sony also cut its predicted PlayStation 3 sales figures to 9.5 million units (down from the touted 11 million) by end of March 2008. So far, Sony had stuck steadfastly to the goal, saying at the end of September that it was still on track to reach it.

"The reasoning behind the cut is the stronger yen, and a lessening of demand from the US, "

I mean as excuses go that has to be one of the worst ones ever, its not like SONY are new to either the US or Japan market now...but i suppose its less embarrassing, but looks more stupid to say "hey, we got it wrong...were making money but not as much as we thought we were going to"

Gears of War 2...confirmed?

If it's true, it's the least surprising surprise in a long time. According to the GamePro magazine on the mag's official
Web site, there'll be new Gears of War 2 info inside.

Epic Games' vice president Mark Rein has already sparked rumours that a sequel to the game was in the works. As far back as November 2006, he told readers on the game's official forums that Gears of War was meant to be a trilogy, possibly even more.

Devil May Cry 4 on the PS3 comes with an "installation procedure" that lasts over 20 minutes

looks like all the PS3 fans out there that wish to play DMC4 will have to wait up wards of 25 minuets plus JUST to install the game on to their PS3's according to this
website.
The 1UP podcast this week also confirmed this, saying it took 25 minutes to complete the installation process, so don't expect to play the game as soon as you get home from the store.
