A friend of mine is helping me build a PC that can meet the recommended requirements for the game, and I'm assuming it can run the game on high. The build is going to cost me somewhere between $550 to $700
If you're really wanting to build a new PC for Battlefield 3 [and the future] I suggest you wait a couple months til around the beta comes out so we can judge what kind of hardware would run it on max with ease.

I'm amazed that it's "that cheap." I would have expected it to be more than that to run a game like this. Maybe times have changed?
It's cheap for many reasons. To name a few
1) Consoles hold back on a lot of things. (Remember a lot of games are created for the 360 and ported over) 2) Competition allows room for more budget cards 3) Everything moves way to fast so by the time X game is release Y hardware is out.
The only thing that I can see costing the most would be the gfx card. RAM is very cheap, motherboard you can get a good one for cheap, there are great CPUs for cheap now, and there are a couple good budget gfx cards now. A $700 computer now would have cost you around $1500 a couple years ago.

I don't like shooters on PC, but this makes me really wanna get it.. Consoles don't support dx11 and it has made a massive improvement in pc games. Crysis 2 is even getting a dx11 update on PC

Well during the demo at E3 the guy was using a 360 controller. So who knows if you can use it at launch. Most games do support just plugging in your PS3/360 controller now.

I'm pretty sure you can play with a 360 controller. For me, it's more of, can my pc run this game? hahaha It probably will, but how well can my pc run it is the question.
Well I only want the controller for Campaign mostly if I were to get it for PC. And maybe flying choppers lol. I hear it's a pain without a controller on PC

If you want to be really good at air vehicles in battlefield game, get a joystick not a controller.
BF3 on the Console will only run at 30FPS. BF3 on the PC will run at 60FPS, and have "improved" graphics.
Even though it has been said..
Dice had to explain why the PC runs better than the console. I facepalmed like no other that they had to explain why a 6 year old piece of hardware can't run like an up to date computer. I wonder why!

6 years ago pc = current consoles. Now PC's would still be faster due to multi-gpu support. Have you seen an eyefinity geforce gtx 590? That's an insane 1080p across 3 30inch monitors. And not all console games even support 1080p. Most are still 720p. Upscaling games like halo reach to 1080p messes up textures a little I hear. However on a PC, that wouldn't be the case. Console is better IMO for convenience. Nothing more. PC always makes me feel like I have to upgrade, but it does provide way better performance. People have told me that using my Monitor to play Xbox on is awesome because you get the best quality from a smaller screen due to the gpu not having to work as hard. 24in monitors are apparently the best. (They support 1080p upscaling without texture probs on some, but I have yet to find a 24in 1080p tv) Again, due to a smaller area for the gpu to fill. It really pisses me off that Microsoft/Sony claim they don't need to upgrade. Even if they released an upgraded Version of the existing 360/ps3 that would be chill.
Gotta say, im slightly disappointed they removed Medic and transferred that over to Assault...
Oh well, they made it up to me by allowing to deploy LMGs.
<3
Well, now the idea of support class is to stay back and shoot from a distance. If they were still relied on for reviving then it would kinda defy the whole point of it.
I think putting medic and assault into one is a much better idea.

Considering in BC2 a lot of the medics are more rambo instead of playing medic.

This game has so many elements from BF2 and 2142 that I am excited to see how it plays out. I played both of those WAY more than BC because BC never felt like a true battlefield game to me. My first online game ever was BF1942: Desert Combat and I can say the battlefield series has always been one of my favorites. It's a shame that I won't have an xbox or computer at my uni, but I'll work something out.
