That's why I asked you to explain. Ganja wrote: I could just show you all the files that they did not have the copyrights to. You're assuming they downloaded any files. They are a torrent search engine.
That would be like arresting the Google founders for allowing someone to search and download kid porn.
AFAIK - the pirate bay contained no content on their site, it is simply a search engine.

I don't doubt that you could* show me what a profiting group claims to have absolute rights over and really let me know this with a group of armed men that are not there to prevent violence ( on the contrary ) but to ensure that x group keeps profiting out of a resource who's only limit is in the mind of those who believe there is one. I would say is also important to point out that these "products" only have this artificial value thanks to violence ( the abuse and oppression of other human beings not in self defense ) and corruption, by itself these would articulate in a much different manner. I think I'll drop a couple of words on this at a later date ( maybe ) but I honestly don't like pointing out obvious things.

Haven't they already proven that pirating doesn't hurt sales. People who pirate weren't going to buy the product in the first place, so the company didn't lose anything. Or in some cases people will pirate a copy to demo it and go on to buy it if they like it so they don't waste their money on rubbish(aka anything MS)
Since when did being able to sing a 2 minute song entitle you to have millions of dollars anyways? Our soldiers risk their lives everyday and I can assure you combat pay isn't anywhere near what most people in the movie and music industry make in a week.
Giving this... I really don't get how they could be put in jail or fined, especially since they didn't actually provide any illegal material. Just one more step forward for the people in control to gain more control.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but buying stuff from a store really isn't all that hard. Honestly.

Yeah, most rappers wanted people to pirate their stuff. They knew if ppl were stealing it, they most like it, and it would spread. I think that's what a lot of the mix tape stuff was all about... and it's not like they can torrent a T-Shirt or going to a concert.

Every single song, album game and program I own, I have bought myself. Sure, you can get stuff for free, but I feel like a jerk if I do it. I work a dam tiring job and I work hard. Very hard. With the money I earn, I like to splurge a little at times. I'll buy a few cd's, maybe an anime DVD or too, and just sit back and enjoy myself for a few hours. I appreciate it more because I've worked for it, it has a value bestowed into it that is more than the simple tasks it can perform for me. But I didn't really want to be involved in some big discussion here, I've beat this dead horse too many times before. I'm not really trying to say that it's 'morally wrong' to download stuff, rather that it's not as hard to buy things as an alternative. What I'd like to add without getting into some legality argument is I love the concept behind what a torrent offers. It's a great platform for the transfer of insanely large files between a widespread community of people, I think the technology is amazing. Pirate Bay was a torrent sight, right? If so, it's a shame it was used for such illegal transfers and shut down accordingly.

downloading an album, or game is really the equivilant of borrowing it from a friend. if someone likes it they will buy their own.
