One of Australia's richest men, Clive Palmer, on Monday unveiled plans to build a 21st century version of the doomed Titanic in China, with its first voyage from England to New York set for 2016.

Palmer, a self-made mining billionaire, said he had commissioned state-owned Chinese company CSC Jinling Shipyard to construct Titanic II with the same dimensions as its predecessor.

"It will be every bit as luxurious as the original Titanic but of course it will have state-of-the-art 21st century technology and the latest navigation and safety systems," Palmer said in a statement.

"Titanic II will sail in the northern hemisphere and her maiden voyage from England to North America is scheduled for late 2016."

That's something I'd actually been thinking about for a while. Seemed like a cool idea. Somehow making it modern and calling it titanic 2 doesn't cut it though :/. They need to try and make it look as close to the original as possible.

They will probably make a lot of profit from that, but it is not something that i really care to try.

I have thought that someone should remake the Titanic. It better look exactly the same as the original, the huge chimneys would then be just for the looks though.

What if this time, the icerberg hits the ship, and the ship is so amazing that it breaks the properties of ice so the ice sinks to the bottom of the ocean.

I don't think they want to test that.

The invincible ship sank before, no need to challenge their power (again), maybe an iceberg can't sink the new one but what about a storm ?

Whadda ya mean by that?
Does he plan on building it out of megablocks or some shit?

I don't see what could go wrong unless the captain is Italian and has the name Francesco Schettino.

Well, he is. He prefers rugby league, but bought a soccer team, then they were dropped from the A-League in like 2 years.

Spend billions of dollars for a ship that has a probability to be sank

vs

Donate to red cross to save people

That's where the world went wrong

I kind of agree with you, but "Red Cross".. is the most corrupt organization among "charities"

It's not the 18th century, there is more risk of the ship spontaneously combusting than being attacked by pirates in the North Atlantic.

The pirates in Somalia may want a change and try a passenger ship far in the Atlantic.

If you're expecting a big wooden ship with cannons on it you're dreaming. Modern day pirates use small boats that are easy to maneuver and carry rocket propelled grenades and Kalashnikovs.

They are not terrorists because they are doing it for the money.

They steal large shipping vessels and put a multi-million dollar ransom on it and if the company won't pay they kill off the crew until they get paid. They're all terrorists.
