Maybe it's because you're American. You know, all those "loler freedom fries, look at the "videos of the french military", and let's criticize them in our media!" gets old pretty quick. When I went to Paris as soon as they would pick up on my french canadian accent they would smile instantly. The people that live there are assholes, but that's probably because of the 24/7 tourism, like in NYC or Toronto. I found in the country and other big cities they were very nice and courteous people. When I went there was several other American groups going through the same tour, our guide (from the UK) was telling us how she noticed each group is culturally different and those from the US treat her like trash. In a hotel we stayed in, they had a curfew for the American groups because they would come out at night and go into the banquet halls and just ruin stuff.
I'm far from being anti-american, i'm always defending America when discussions come up with my friends or in my classes, but calling the french snobbish seems ignorant and malinformed. Have you ever been to France? Outside Paris? For anything longer than a couple days?
