I am new to the game and was wondering if people could help me narrow down what I would want to play. If you could just post general information about each class/build that would be helpful. Please try not to be biased towards your own class, but let me know what you have seen or what friends have told you. A few of the classes that have caught my eye when watching fraps are:

Warlock
STR Blader
STR Glaive
STR Bow

I haven't seen a whole lot of good fraps from int characters.

Anything is appreciated. Thanks

it all depends on how you prefer playing,

i like playing with a str character because i love CRIT's and love not dieing so fast.

so i would always go with

STR Bow
STR Blader
STR warrior Sub Cleric

Well... pretty complicated coz the game in plenty of combinations...

First, 2 races:

European:
High damage but they have some problems at solo play (at least in low lvls). They must (to use their 100%) play in parties (gruop opf player helping each other). Also got a pot delay of 15 secs (that's why they can die easy).
Chinese:
Medium (I say medium coz is not as euro damage and neither is too low) damage, but can solo b'cause they don't have 15 secs of pot delay. Also are (in my point of view) more versatile can have more different skills.

Second:
Pure Str: That means that you have to put all your points to Str, these points will give you more life (hp) and better physical damage/defence. You will have low INT (MP) and also low magical attack/defence. Used in: (chinese) Blader, Bowers, Glaviers or in (european) Warriors & rogues.

Pure INT: That means that you have to put all your points to INT, these points will give you less life (hp) and low physical damage/defence. You will have high INT (MP) and also high magical attack/defence. This are the highest damage dealer and can be (chinese) Sword, Spear (not recommended) or (euro) Wizard, Warlock, Cleric & Bard.

Hybrid: That means that you must choose to gives some points to STR and others to INT. You will have middle Physical/Magical attack/defence, but you will survive more that Pure INTs and hit harder than Pure STR (but pure str criticals are much better). This can ONLY be used in CHINESE characters because they have both (magical and physical attacks) and can be used in: Bower, Spear, Sword characters (really can be used in all the chinese chars but these are the most common).

I hope u get an idea of what you want... Later I will explain all the builds (just a few of each) and you can choose what you like the most. (soory I got to go clases now) :banghead:

Thanks Phix and Thalas. Phix you said you would go STR Bow / Blader, why not glaive? Just not your thing or something bad about them?

Well.. I'm back :D

CHINESE:
STR Builds:
1)Glavier:
The Strongest Str build (higher damage, but Bowers have better critical), the heuksal pasive give you estra Hp and as glavie are pure str this is the build with the highest Hp. It's grind speed is medium coz they can tank and has some skills that kill many mobs in one or 2 hits. Mainly they use garment to raise their magical defence and also b'cause garment makes you consume 20% less of mp per skill (glavies use tons on mp per skill and they lack of MP).

2)Bower:
The characteristic is that they can kill the mobs before they came close, so they won't use too many Hp. Bow have ranged attacks and the HIGHEST CRITICAL among the chinese build that makes you grind fast than a glavie, but are also more vulnerable to close attacks.
It's not recomended to be a tanker coz just have 2 (or 3, not sure) skills that hit to more than 1 mob. Recommended: Garment.

3)Bladers:
It's ULTIMATE chinese TANKER, can have many mobs hitting at him at the same time, but it has the SLOWEST grind speed b'cause they skills hit pretty low. In this build is recommended to use garment so they can tank even more easy mobs with magical attacks. It's master piece is their shield b'cause it can BLOCK attacks.
Recommended:GARMENT.

INT Builds:
1)Spear:
It has the highest magical attack, but they lack of physical defence and also Hp (even with the heuksal pasive that gives extra hp), that's why it's fragile and dies easily. This has the FASTEST grind speed b'cause has ranged attacks (since lv 30) and kills mobs with 1 or 2 hits (1 nuke and a shout) mobs that even are higher lv than the character's. Recomended: ARMOR and go HYBRID.

2)Sword:
It's also a high damage dealer, but it can wear a shield which will give you more defence than spear's. As bladers it's master piece is their shield b'cause it can BLOCK attacks and it comes very helpful. Also have fast grind speed b'cause as spear, has ranged attacks (since lv 30) and kills mobs with 1 or 2 hits (1 nuke and a shout) mobs that even are higher lv than the character's. Recommended: PROTECTOR.

EUROPEAN:
STR Builds:
1)Warrior:
this is sub-divided in:
a)2-Handed Sword:
The highest damage dealer of the euro str builds, It's also a very good tanker, but they lack of magical defence. In difference with Glavie, it's skills don't use so much MP (coz of the 15 secs of pot delay). It's grind speed is slow (not so much) if it is soloing and in party is medium/fast (all depends in how good is the party.
b)1-Handed Sword:
It is the best tanker in the game (with iron skin). It can wear a shield that as I mentioned can block attacks and have some shield skills that can knock back (KB)the enemies. It's grind speed is even slow (as bladers) when soloing, but in parties is Medium/fast.
c)Dual Axe:
This build has faster skills but not necessary kills faster and neither hits higher. It's grind speed is between 2h's and 1h's speed when soloing and medium/fast in party.

2)Rogue:
Also this build can be sub-divided in:
a)Crossbow (XBow):
This is the euro version of the chinese bower, but with better damage (coz of it's buff). Also have further ranged attacks and the the second Highest critical of the euro chars. This build can became invible (stealth) and have and advantage when attacking.
b)Daggers:
This build have the highest CRITICAL of the whole game. It attacks fast and with combos but is vulnerable to close attacks b'cause they sacrifies defebce to raise their attacks (since lv 20 with dagger desperate/DD). This build can became invible (stealth) and have and advantage when attacking.

INT Builds:
1)Wizard:
This is the HIGHEST damage dealer of the whole game (besides the STR's criticals), but also the most vulnerable. Dies pretty often, so you need to be smart to play it right. Has the highest grind speed, but it is easier to lv in parties.

2)Warlock:
This build doen't hit as good as wizards, but can stay alive for much time for 2 reasons: They can use shield = Block and they use debuff (stun, lower enemy attack damage, etc). Also recovers it's Hp from mobs' using 1 of it's skills.

2)Bard:
This is a buffer (helps other with their skills), so it plays better in party b'cause they skills can recovers others/it's own Mp. The are not big damage dealer, but they skills cast faster than wizards' or warlock's so they can hit twice faster.

3)Cleric:
This is also a buffer, so it plays better in party b'cause they skills can recovers others/it's own Hp. this is the only euro INt based build that can wear Light armor/LA (euro version of chinese protector) by itself, so can have little better defence and can stay alive longer with it's LA and buffs.

...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................

VOCABULARY:
just some words that probably you don't understand...

HP: hit pints = life
MP: Magic points = mana
Critical: a hit that is double powered
Block: When a hit became to 0 damage
Tanker: a character and can survive when many enemies attacks him.
Party: a group of players helping each other and lvling faster.

...........................................................................................................................................................................................................................
any other question... just ask here... :P

As its your 1st char I would reckomend being a glaiver, they hit hard, tank alot, are decent in pvp and are newbie friendly and easy to use, you wont have to worry about not having mana shield, or have to go hybrid, they lvl fast to, so not having silk or good weps is a problem, also you cant rly go wrong with a glaiver so it gives you a bit of room to experiment with the game in general :D

i would recommend an euro char for your first char,,

less farming, pretty hard to **** up,,

you dont learn to play the game following advices or a guides,, you really would need to make a char and try stuff,,

afterall,, i dont know anyone who went on with his first char,, first char is to **** up and see other build or stay same build with better farming etc. i played my first char to lvl 34,, (back at 70cap),, but i was having 6 trees, and gap 7 xD so i got boooooored xD so weak 8) but when i got to lvl 34 i knew peeps who guided me through the more advanced game playing stuff,, alchemy etc.. i made my a new char (gave my pass to the wrong peeps :( dumb **** back then xD) found my char totally clean and all sp was put in trees i couldnt do shit with,, so :) i stopped for some time,, started all over,, 80cap, stopped again, euro update :) hooked up since,, now i have 6 chars i play with :):) like to switch abit xD

lol.. I went with the first Chinese char I built. It still did pretty well as a 2:1 INT hybrid until everybody got farmed with level 70 skills. I pretty much gave up PvPing and just relaxed a bit.

Now.. @OP: Building a Euro char would be pretty good depending on which server you started on. They're more party-based, which will help you meet other players and get more parties later on. Chinese chars are more solo-based and aren't as effective grinding in groups. The reason behind this is the fact that all Chinese characters have the same skills to choose from (Lightning, Fire, Ice, Force) + Weapon mastery. This leads to a more balanced character. However, you can see from European parties that everybody has a role. It just makes it more fun, in my opinion.

Also, I suggest going with a glaiver as your first character. They're pretty easy to level, and much faster than bladers. Oh, and I agree with the description by _Sir_Thalas_ of the different builds.

chinese pvp starts at 76+ or even 80+ when you finally get those REAL usefull skills, example windless spear (2x dull) and on 80 soul spear emperor ( 2x stun ) :)
