I thought that the more reps you do, the more fat you burn.

thats pretty much true.

3-6 reps = strength.

7-10 reps = size.

10+ reps = fitness / tone.

or something like that.

I noticed no one in this thread actually used names for anything so i just wanted to put in my 2cents from my own personal experience.

I used to use MuscleMilk, but it really has a ton of calories.
It bulked me up quick, but I had to destroy myself with cardio so i wouldnt really recommend it.

added glutamine powder in there , i used 5grams-7grams a day depending on the work out.

chicken breast was my diet for ages. salad, WILD rice (not regular white), good carbs, lots of wheat and PEANUT BUTTER. 1 or 2 scoops a day. Fish is also good, tilapia is great, salmon too. If you want eggs, take the yolk out before cooking it (with a spoon or something).

you can use the FitDay website to track your diet, its amazing.

pre-workout i would take a drink of N0 explode. It gives you a ridiculous boost, i felt like the hulk. post work out id eat a banana and add a small protein shake. I always added 3 strawberries cuz i think its nasty just plain.

if you want, cereal with 2% or less milk is good. Total brand is good stuff.

most important of all, sleep well and stay on a diet unless you want layers of fat on top of your muscle.

before working out make sure you are in good cardiovascular shape. If you just throw yourself in a gym and try to lift your muscles will give out within the first couple of reps.
get on a diet and drink loads of water weeks beforehand, dont kill yourself

Heh last time i was looking at protein i was deciding between MuscleMilk and Maximuscle Progain. I heard good thing about MuscleMilk but i went on some website and i couldnt find anywhere to actually buy it so i went with Progain instead. First time i've had protein shakes with water instead of milk.. and it is the most horrible thing ever, but oh well. Gonna try it for a bit, if it works then i dont care about the taste.

And.. NoExplode. I hear so many people raving about that, but i'd rather protein, cant afford both. Do you find it helps your gains much? And it seems wierd, with the big rush it gives you, do you feel more exhausted after the workout?

I recommended ONs 100% Whey and/or EAS for a protein powder. I prefer to stick to one low in calories so I can use it while dieting or while "bulking", and adjust my calories with real food. The ONs (Optimum Nutrition) I use has 130 calories per serving and 24g of protein.

I didn't mention any pre/post workout stuff because I figured the supplement nazi's would shoot me down.. :P

For pre workout I use White Flood and for post I have my protein shake, glutamine, my multivitamin and 5g of micronized creatine. Along with a carb source. /In before creatine debate.

You say to diet, do you mean an actual calorie deficit or "eat healthy". You can't diet and build muscle, it's not physically possible. While "bulking", in other words trying to build lean muscle mass, you have to eat a small surplus of calories for muscle building. Eating healthy while doing this will definitely help to keep off the body fat while letting you build muscle.

Now, for beginners, at first, you could see results as far as building muscle and burning fat at the same time, but your results would be slow and inefficient. In the long run, doing one or the other will get you better results in the given amount of time.

Ex. A guy who bulks for 6months then cuts for 6 months is going to have a lot better gains than someone who tried to bulk/cut/diet the entire time. Not to mention it's easier to do one or the other than to try and do both at the same time.

In the end this may be a too much and a little more than the OP asked. You'll see results by simply getting off the couch, there are just better ways of going about it.

Every person want to build his muscles and get an ideal body to be attractive and prominent among the other. For this muscles gaining different people do different activities some do body building, weight workout, some do cardio workout, some others use muscles gaining supplements and steroids.
In my opinion the cardio or weight workout is a good way for the muscles building.
