he's not the first hypocritical dumbass and he won't be the last.
Impact on my life: .0000000000001%
Yeah, I'll point and laugh, then move on. He's still pretty angry about something, obviously. I'm sure we've all been really angry, and he overreacted, now everyone gets to know about it.

It's not the fact that he's an actor, but that he promotes discrimination, antisemitism, and racism blatantly. I don't really care that he makes good movies, is a good actor or whatever, but he is just a terrible person. I don't really care that Tom Cruise is totally insane for believing in Scientology, but rather that Mel Gibson supports and encourages a culture of discrimination.
I do not follow what actors/actrices do in their personal lives or on party's or what ever, like I said I really couldn't care less.

Yes but there are millions of terrible people out there. Just because he is an actor it doesn't make me care that he's just like one of those other terrible people. I watch his movie and it ends there. If he discriminates a lot of people then he should face whatever consequences there are for that, just like everyone else. I'm not saying that what he does isn't wrong. I'm saying that I don't like the spotlight on this just because he's an actor. If he were anything but an actor this would be over already.
UGH. You are missing my point 100%. I don't care that he's an actor, I care that he freely encourages and spreads racism on mass media. Maybe you guys don't care, but SO many people are impressionable, and he pretty much abets racism.

The thing that sets terrible celebrities apart from other terrible regular people is that individuals such as Mel Gibson who are actors get their recognition from having many supporters and fans. By continuing to support their work (movies, music, etc), the public only enables and reinforces their mentality that this behavior is okay since there are no repercussions. Granted, he may make great movies be a great actor but that's simply not enough to keep supporting his work, in my opinion anyway. I'd rather support the work of a celebrity who isn't a misogynistic antisemite.

Thank you, at least you understand my argument. +1

at about 1:50 we leave the realm of a person who has any right to make a movie of the Passion of The Christ for religious/educational purposes and enter the realm of someone who obviously has little to no morals, a huge ego, a violent temper, and is most likely motivated solely by profit....and the aforementioned ego
I've been indifferent to gibson's film work for the most part and my problem with these tapes isn't that he's a horrible human being, i'll never meet him so its not something i'll ever have to experience first hand. My problem is he put himself on such lofty standards, built his own personal church, made that terrible movie The Passion which grossed huge numbers and incited controversy for eing anti-semetic and basically taking the message of Christ back tot he dark ages (look what the jews did) and it turns out he's just a hypocrite and an awful awful person. It's like he tricked the world into believing he had a message to spread other than hatred and millions fell for it...

Say what you want about Mel, but for some reason I think he's done more with his life than you or I will ever do with ours. You posting this thread proves that.
I was going to go into rant mode, but I realized you can't even form intelligible arguments let alone be able to decipher someone else's.

I still like and respect Mel he has given us some great movies and the media / entertainment business has a habit of messing with peoples personal lives. Most of us rant to our ex lovers if we have had a bad break up... its private does not deserve to be aired like this.
I would understand where you're coming from when you say its a private statement made privately over the phone, but he has quite a long record of behaving like a xenophobic, self-righteous prick in public. He is not new to being a public figure, so one would assume that he'd learn to comport himself. I've always been indifferent about Mel Gibson's career so I suppose I'm lucky that his films don't impact my judgment of his character.
you use this argument against me, how about you try use something different this time around when you wanna bitch about someone giving their view, why do you have to bitch about other people who disagree, I'm starting to think you're a Republican.
But I liked Mel Gibson. I really don't care about his life and what happens in it as I try to distance myself from celebrity worship. All I know is that when he was being a performer in movies I enjoyed them, other than that i don't care too much about what happens to him

The same argument? What, pointing out that you're an idiot? Yeah, come to think of it, I might have used that on you as well. But can you blame me? I fully respect someone else's opinion, just not when it attacks me in the process. Reading comprehension helps. And what the hell does my political affiliation have to do with anything? lol
If you want to continue throwing your little tantrum for whatever reason, PM me instead. I don't see why anyone else should be subjected to your incessant whining and phlegmatic stupidity.

@allsayingpraisehisfame: defending someone speaking this way with their career... that just seems like the weakest argument next to the "its business" one
