Are you guys sure about what you want to do for your futures?
Some people think that they will go to college and get a nice job in a cubicle crunching numbers.
But a man must go crazy after a while of working in an office, I know that the Office makes it look fun but its nothing like that if you've ever been to a real office, its pretty damn boring.

The only " fun" jobs seems like only the lucky get to have them. Like getting payed to play ping pong or soccer, none of us will ever be that good or might never get discovered.
I think that the universal "life fulfilling" occupation is a vagrant traveler.

If you think about how short life really is do you really want to waste most of it in some job that I will repeat over and over again on a daily basis?
I want to travel around and see new things. The only problem is that it needs to be financed.

tl;dr
I want to travel the world and have a fun life.

Anyone else want to travel the world, or do you already have your future planned?

getting a good job isnt lucky it takes a lot of hard work for us to achieve that ideal job unless you enjoy sitting in an office punching in numbers or working at the checkout of a supermarket.

its far from lucky is all. cba to read the rest that just stood out to me

If that boring job is able to finance mine and my families hobbies now and in the future then I will be perfectly happy in life. Several years of a boring job, working your ass off to retire into a life of your dreams seems reasonable to me.

Yes I would love to travel around the World and see lots of different places. I don't want to do it for my entire life though.

Yeah but wouldn't you rather travel as a young man where you can try more things while your physically able?

Sure, but which option is more realistic. I don't want to take out loans and go into debt so I can travel the world at a young age (as two of my friends are doing atm, in Europe). If I'm going to travel the world I want to do it comfortably. And you don't have to retire at 65+. I'm thinking late 40's, early 50s if I work, save, live frugal, and invest correctly.

"Fun life" is a subjective term. Who knows? Maybe there are people out there who do enjoy doing the same arduous task. Or people who would rather settle down after a certain age or lifestyle. Others heed Socrates' old adage. Some do not.

Again, subjective.

As for me, I've been traveling the world for a good decade now. Most of it was spent in rivalry with my childhood friend, who has now settled into research. The thought of getting married and starting a family hasn't yet entirely crossed my mind. The competitive requirements that my career and goal entails do not exactly go hand in hand with an established life. I still have a long way to go to be a Pokemon Master.

This may sound conceited, but I truly have/had the potential to making something out of my life for the future. i.e. (Doctor, Lawyer, etc) You know, the prestige jobs that your parents always want you to be. But the thought of all that work, those bleak depressing lifestyle I would have to undergo just to obtain that, doesn't seem worth it. I always tell myself "If a job isn't enjoyable, it becomes work." I'm sure we all want a job that we'd enjoy, the money of a more prestige job doesn't seem to be worth it in my opinion, after all, money doesn't bring happiness. I'm hoping to do something with my life, pertaining to either computers or art(maybe a combination of both?), at least then I'd be happy.

why is money such a concern if you wanna do those things do them, there are always ways to do them, want to travel backpack stoping in hostels as you go or roughing it in a tent, cuts your costs down exponentially and you get to see more. want to do extreme sports just do them dont stop to think...thinkers tend not to do extreme sports mainly due to the whole thinking this is going to hurt side of it! but im one to talk im stuck doing the same boring shit with huge ambitions i want to backpack though prolly will in a couple of years too. wanna do freefall sky diving too job wise i want to work within the game industry i know how to do it but i also know its not easy.

personally insted of trying to do too much at once iv set myself life goals will write them down sometime aswell. most recent one i achieved was to get onto a rollercoster might not sound like much but they scare the **** out of me and i told myself i would so i did...only went on 2 the 3rd one was well too much for me seeing as i aint got on a rollercoster in atleast 13 years.

by this i just mean do xx activity before im 21 or xx, xx, xx,xx activities before im 50 or before i die dont do shit like win the lottery keep them to the realms of possibility and reason dont start trying to say own 2 houses and get a super car these really are hard to acheieve not saying aint possible just keep them small and meaningful i doubt a sports car will be the end goal of your life haha

prolly not at all related to the topic started seeing as iv not read it but should be helpful, if someone fixxes my grammar would be even better :D

well, i know construction trades are pretty looked down upon here. But I do wanna work in a construction trade,Glazier to be exact. That job provides a good pay(80g+ a year in union) and its pretty satisfying as what you work with/on is one of the first things people notice/see when they look at a building. I enjoy my work and most around me do, so that makes working fun. I couldn't work in an office punching numbers, typing letters. In offices everyone seems to hate their job. But every jobsite I have been on mostly everyone seems to enjoy it.

There are some jobs that can help you with this. Some obvious ones are Doctor/Dentist/Psychiatrist, my uncle is a family doctor he works for about 6-7 hours a day, gets a lot of breaks throughout the day, and he works a lot for a few days and then get a few days off. I don't know if you would like to go through 8 years of hell to become a doctor, and be a bit pressured during the job, to go around the world then its perfect for you. It will also be great financially if you save up and spend the money correctly then you could have saved enough to retire by the time your in your 40's. You can also have traveled to a good amount of places.

But if you really want to travel the world world then do it, or else it will always be that "what if.."

the usual knee-jerk response is that "money isn't everything" but the truth is that having enough money makes life easier and enjoyable. I think everyone should work hard and invest well to become financially secure.

I'm not entirely sure what I want to be when I grow older, but probably a physicist or some specific branch of that (like an astrophysicist). I want to know how the universe works. It'll involve a lot of work though.

If i had the type of money where i could travel the world without a job or an education...i'd probably use that money to further my education and get a better job...

I like learning. I look forward to spending my days in a lab. I look forward to trying and experimenting on new things. I like the type of future im reaching towards.

Work doesn't have to be miserable. Its mostly miserable for those who

a. never really had a choice where they would work
b. when choosing their career choose it for the wrong reasons

If the only reason you're picking something is for money then that's all you'll get out of it. Life is short but its also long. People have more time to try new things than they give life credit for. Time often isn't the factor in decisions like that...its resources...

I am totally unsure about my plan for my life. Originally I was planning on taking a business program at University but re-evaluated that plan and decided to take a year off and take some part-time courses in varying fields to try to figure out what I want to do.

Wanted to add: The job I plan to get and work hard at will also be something I enjoy. Currently getting my degree in computer science.

EDIT: Wrong quote.

Which is 99% of everybody.

You can either do something you hate and make good money, or do something you love and go broke.

You can actually do both, just THINK what you really like, for example i'm gonna study Robotics, i enjoy all that stuff, and i always wanted to work on that, AND it pays good, so it's win/win for me :)

Well if you do something you love you will probably be really good at it, better then others who are just in it because its the only thing they could get into, or because of the pay. If you do better then you will become one of the bigger people in your field and that usually has a decent pay no matter which job it is.

lol when i was younger all i wanted was a middle class life w/ a family and owning a honda accord working at a cubicle office.

I always thought i'd be a scientist, but then figured out the pay isn't very good + my last two science teachers made me totally hate science.

then IT (really just for the money)...but then again staring at a computer screen for 8 hours...plus i was never really interested in computers <,<

now i'm thinking about being an orthopedic surgeon, but 8 years of college =

Yea and then the residency is more hell then medical school. But once you graduate its very nice, though the hours can be very bad sometimes.
