I hate to oppose the crowd, but is everything really about technical specifications?
To be honest, I hate laptops. The design is so awkward, I find the screens a pain to look at and the keyboards are always so small. I have a laptop myself and have a monitor, keyboard and mouse attached to it. It is essentially a desktop for the way I use it. I'd hate the use it on a train or at collage for work purposes without my peripherals.
I've played around with an iPad before and you know what? They are fun. They are a lot of dam fun and insanely easy to do simple tasks on. How important is this? To me, a lot. When it comes to a low-end portable device, my main concern wouldn't be technical specifications. Rather, I'd focus on usability. Do both devices meet your budget and technical requirements? If so, which one is more user friendly? Which one are you finding more enjoyable to use? Are you having a better experience on one device as opposed to another? If so, use it.
If this was designed to be a high specified machine, it's a different story. In that case usability is less important and raw power becomes a bigger issue. But for my every day tasks, usability and user experience is my biggest criteria. I don't know how many people here agree with me, but I think it's an area that is being vastly over looked. Obviously some people have a different user experience across platforms, but lets at least appreciate the entire concept of user experience and take it into consideration.

An iPad is flat. A laptop is easier since it is foldable, has the screen and the keyboard separated, and that is practically everything an iPad is not. Imagine yourself sitting in class. On a laptop, you can sit down, type (prolly blind) and keep an eye on the screen and on the teacher at the same time. On an iPad, which is again, flat, half the screen will be taken over by the "keyboard" and you have to bend over to watch what you just typed. Therefore, in a class, a laptop > iPad × >9000 = win. EDIT: Master_of_Puppets wrote: Not really, my laptop is heavy, especially that I have to carry around this huge power supply because it wasnt from canada, but from dubai, my adapter is HUGE, takes up a lot of space in my bag... Thats the main reason why I wana get an iPad, its small compact, and battery lasts ages
lol you serious? Your thoughts are so illogical. You can easily find a different adapter that suits your laptop that's a lot smaller than the one you have now. Isn't it that all laptops have either a Black, Yellow or Red plugin for power and so they practically fit all? I have a Toshiba laptop too, and sometimes I forgot my own adapter, and I could easily use a Dell adapter to recharge. A new adapter and that expensive.....

I see people use iPad's in my classes, so 1, i wouldn't be the only one, 2nd to be honest spoiled brats are more like: hey look I have a brand new Mac Book Pro that cost me 2500$! But hey thats my opinion anyways i'll see what i'll do about this Never knew how much apple hatred as lurking in these forums hehe now I know, to be honest I don't mind, I wanted to see your opinion, and I wasn't expecting more than what I got. Thanks guys

This isn't so much Apple hatred as it is logical decision making.
Ergonomics: Laptop Design: Laptop Functionality: Laptop Specs: Laptop Price: iPad
You're the one who made a thread asking for advice..and every single piece of logical advice has been thrown aside with your "iPad is awesome" "iPad is fun comments". Then you challenge for a laptop that is lightweight and "without lag" and you obviously didn't expect an answer.. Why ask for advice if you're not going to use any of it?
