This.

The 1st gen was great and all but it was the simple concept of adding more to an already bigass list that got me (100+ was mind-numbing to my puny mind). I was like "NOOWAAYZZZ THEY'RE ADDING MOAAARR?!?!?! WHAAAAAAATTT?!?!?! SOOOOOO KEEEWWWWLLLL!!!!"

And then they added, and added, and added, and...

First expansion FTW!

After that the games got more complex and filled with random shit. Basically the old ass gameboy games that were square shaped. That's where it's at.

Ya your right.
If you battle online you'd notice that it's all quite complex.

Random shit like the contests or battle arena w/e the hell it was called
Referring to complexity, I guess I just wasn't a fan of the whole 'nature' thing. The abilities were okay, but "EV farming" was far enough in terms of stat complexity. Remember the game is directed at children. Or maybe I'm blinded by north america's view on games like that and they really are directed at a wider range of people. Who knows.

I watched and listened all the way through that vid and the way he talks about this game is a little pathetic IMO...

Pokemon is a complex game for people who know what they are doing. I'm really looking forward to the metagame changes these new pokemon will bring.

Yeah true most people did not even know about EV training and such as it was not even explained in the game or manual.
I believe it is aimed at kids.

Yeah, not many people know about the complex side of it. The great thing is that is has 2 sides. One for kids, one for people who want more - play competitve. This is what keeps games alive, IMO. Look at games like Super Smash brother [ before brawl ], you could have a lot of fun just playing casual but also play it on a pro level, with all the advanced techniques.

People in Japan even play competitve Sailor Moon, which really shows that if a game has the options, it will be "exploited" into compettive gaming.
