Nobody wants to be left in the dark. Isn't that right? Even if a place that has no creepy elements in daylight.. lulz Well, do you believe that something is out there? Hiding and waiting, or is it Just scary because we watch too many horror movies?
imagination and fear of not knowing imo... I mean, rationally you know nothings there but still
This. If you focus on the rational part of it though, it's not a big deal. I remember being a kid and having my blankets tucked all the way up to my neck and not letting even my shoulders hang out a little. Nightlights also sucked lol, cause as a kid the littlest things making shadows in them freaks you out more than the dark.
I think being "scared" of the dark is because you dont really know whats there.
Like, I fcking jumped when I saw something pop up inside the haunted house in the strobing light part ( everything is like in slow motion! like in the movies but you experince it o.O )
It was the first one I walked through but after that one the tohers were pretty much the same and I kinda knew what to expect, but when they scream and holler at you it has the same effect lol

Notice how only nocturnal animals stay out in the dark? It's coz of that, now matter how big our brains are, we are still animals and we still have instincts, no matter how dulled they may be by the generations wasted being away from nature, and by nature we fear the dark because that's when the "predators" come to get you.
On another note, most of us are rational and can move past the initial jolt of fear.
Personally the dark doesn't bother me but I can never say for sure since its very rare for me to actually be in pure darkness(thanks to artificial lighting). But sometimes i get the creeps at night, usually after I was watching 3-4 hrs of nothing but horror shows/movies( I do that sometimes) and I get jumpy after that *shivers*

I wouldn't recommend insanity to everyone, but its always worked for me. For me, insanity is super sanity. The normal is psychotic. Normal means lack of imagination, lack of creativity.
I think that the only thing we fear when we are born is the dark. Everything else we learn to fear through experience
lulwut? I have to completely disagree. The only thing we are naturally scared of is death. Well, pain too. Both emotional and physical. So 2 things, pain and death. We are afraid of things because they cause a negative reaction to us, often pain and death.
I'll explain. We aren't scared of heights simply because "they are high". No, we are scared of them because if we fall, we die. We are scared of snakes because if they bite us, we become ill. We are scared of being alone because it causes emotional pain and detachment. We are scared of the dark because the shit we can't see, may dam well hurt us.
Basic human instinct is to live, breed and survive. We fear things that will bring this to an end. Seems pretty darn simple to me.
