Meh, never liked trick plays like this. If there actually was a problem with the ball what would they say when someone on defense destroys the runner faking it?
@key j he acted like he was walking to the ref because there was an issue with the ball, or something along those lines.

notice the offensive line didn't move either. nobody moved or crossed the line, so no offsides or false starts. Acted like a valid snap, so I'm guessing it's allowed.

Yea it's allowed. It's like kicking another guy in the balls when you're fighting - you just don't do that.
