A 12-year-old child prodigy has astounded university professors after grappling with some of the most advanced concepts in mathematics.
Jacob Barnett has an IQ of 170 - higher than Albert Einstein - and is now so far advanced in his Indiana university studies that professors are lining him up for a PHD research role.
The boy wonder, who taught himself calculus, algebra, geometry and trigonometry in a week, is now tutoring fellow college classmates after hours.
And now Jake has embarked on his most ambitious project yet - his own 'expanded version of Einstein's theory of relativity'.

Wow. Give him a break, he's 12 and he is (going to be) more successful than you or I will ever be.
you really have no clue about what really is to be successful in life xD
Anyways, hope this kid has some real brain and, if he wants to do something, do it for people's good, not for the sake of just discovering shit, wich is stupid and dangerous.

Holy shit Well, a IQ tests only measure how good you are at IQ tests.. They don't measure how intelligent you are in overall. lulz Btw: high IQ's don't mean everything.

"High IQ" didn't stop me from failing 11th grade and having overall shitty grades throughout high school, making a million bad decisions during life etc etc.

Good for him, if he ends up creating something positive for society I will be appreciative of his gifts.

Being genius is a gift.... Its not earned... So there is no need for anyone to envy or be jealous of someone that is a genius. I wish the kid all the best.

its stil earned you cant just sit in a blank room and be a genius you need to work for it just he finds it easier to understand whats been taught to him and may or may not learn at a vastly greater pace (this is likely) but considering that he is likly to have a social defect and may find it hard to blend into a normal crowd

Makes me think of a paper I wrote for my developmental psychology class on how IQ testing is not an accurate, and even considered useless, tool in certain settings. It's impossible to set a standard on how intelligent people are based on a set criteria. If you ask someone who majors in math about medical problems, he probably won't have a clue on how to answer the majority of the questions - and vice versa. Although I don't mean to discredit the fact that the child does have an incredible skill for grasping math-related concepts.
If there's ever a genius that I truly envy, it would be Mozart.

You trollin? Discovering shit is dangerous? Look at the atom bomb discovery, saved millions of lives (true, look it up if you want?) Look at people using the Hadron collider, discovering is not dangerous, let this kid do what he wants. My definition of being successful will never = yours, so don't objectify a clearly subjective idea. Hopefully one day he will discover stuff that will help us understand the physical world.

You do realize an IQ that high at a young age is quite a strong indicator of intelligence, right? Intelligent =/= knowledgeable, like you said with the pre-med v. math student. Just because he doesn't answer a question doesn't mean he isn't smart. IQ testing is NOWHERE NEAR useless, and an IQ of 170 is incredibly accurate to say this kid is brilliant and hopefully he will figure out some cool stuff.
