a 2002-2006 acura rsx type s, its really fast for a 4 cylinder car. 2004+ subaru imprezza wrx 04 model mitsubishi evolution, hard to find but are fast as heck and very respected.
If you do care about reliability and mpg, i still recommend sticking to honda and acura's cars.

btw, not sure about how reliable is the 65 mustang or mpg it has. but the rx8, with it's rotary engine, is not gonna give you the mpg your looking for and also carrys alot of maintanence. A car similar to the rx8 in looks would be a 2000-2005 toyota celica.

Useless replies LOL And the mustang wont give you the mpg at all Subaru will probably blow up (the engine) because of the previous owner, not always 100% right but any wrx or sti owner will have reved the car a lot of times to 6000 rpm ++ which is not smart for the engine life time. The audi a4 or a6 will have 200k + mileage for that price and maintenance will cost you a shit ton of cash Toyota celica is a good choice but be wise in your choice... In my opinion try to get a mazda 3 2.3 litre 4 cylinder 2006 - 2008. I have looked for cars in montreal and I could easily find a mazda 3 2007 ish for 13k CAD with under 60,000kms standard and in good conditions with all the gadgets (sun roof, 17" rims, spoiler, small body kit e.t.c.) You will get power, especially standard. You can also tweak the engine, (p-flow, cold air intake e.t.c) to gain a few HP here and there that wont totally wreck your engine and make your car sound beast when shifting (Or you could look at 2002 - 2004 mazda 3 speed if you are stubborn and want 50hp more absolutely) http://www.citymazda.com/en/usedcars/listing/index.spy?make=MazdaYou could also go for a VW Golf R32 2004 if your seriously looking into speed, but then again like I said for the previous cars most of the car owners pushed theirs to the limit, and will probably need some heavy maintenance soon after you buy it.. Another car you could go for is the Honda Civic Si, fast reliable sporty e.t.c. but it wouldn't be my personal choice... Don't go for the above, not worth it especially the subaru, I have been smashed upon with my own "im getting a new car thread" previously and I have summed up what the others have said in my thread... (Kinda)

My recommendation is to buy a domestic vehicle because normally parts for imports are fairly expensive.
The 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt Coupe has a 2.2L 148hp engine, comes in either automatic or manual transmission and depending on which you buy determines the MPG you get. Automatic transmission has 24 mpg for city driving and 34 mpg for highway driving. Manual transmission has 26 mpg for city driving and 37 mpg for highway driving.
The 2008/2009 Dodge Caliber SRT-4 has a 2.4L 285hp Turbocharged engine, comes specifically in manual. The Caliber has within 25-35 mpg for both city and highway driving.
I couldn't find anything in Ford because I thought most of the vehicles I saw weren't up to your standards. Either they were too expensive or old busted pieces of shit

I'm assuming you live in the USA, so this advice might not be particularily helpful since driving there compared to the UK is a different story completely. But when I was younger turning into my twenties I got myself a rather old Mini Cooper which served really well as a town car and I used it for 2 years with almost no problems till I could afford the insurance for a Supra. So I could recommend a Mini if they are cheap enough and you don't need to drive super far every day, especially since the models these days are more up to the modern standards then what I had to deal with.
Failing that, you could try to get yourself an older import/domestic car and tune it up. A lot of my mates did that as we grew up, and if that's your sort of thing then your can tailor your car into whatever you want to get out of it.
Sorry I'm not a conventional car driver, but hopefully this sheads some light on some new ideas if you haven't already thought about it.

I never did says all of my choices are good in reliability since he wanted fast cars.
if reliability is a factor, then nothing will ever beat honda, acura and toyota.
i'm also getting ready to buy a car soon, so i've been doing alot of researched for over a year now.
if your lucky, you might find a 94+ toyota supra, other choices are acura rsx, celica, civic si.
also getting a dosmestic car will not save y0u money.

Then follow my advice, get a mazda or a volkswagen 2007 ish with 30k miles or less on the odo and you will be set for atleast a good 3 - 5 years depending on how you drive the car and the previous owners

Miles/kilometres doesn't necessarily matter. There's so many ways to drive the car. I have 250k+ kilometres on my BMW and never had any problems at all with the engine.

And yea you are right BMW's are not the cheapest ones but in my opinnion they are worth the money (two BMW's in the family now and never going back).

I'll take that 65 stang with the 302(5.0)-more than likely- getting better gas mileage than the 04 RX8 with it's- what 1.3 wankel engine... Setting sail to fail...
Anyways... If you want something with power and also eco, think VTec sir. Anything with a B18.. K series or H22...
-edit- BMW has actually got some pretty cheap models now, if you step back a couple years.. Either way you better save for the parts cost...

If you dont get an m3 or m5 dont get a BMW.
All the other BMW's have become the new ford mondeo - see them everywhere you go because everyone who wants an ordinary car gets them now.
