Which brand of laptops do yall prefer? And why?
Also, should i go quad-core or just dual-core? Looking for a laptop tha i can game on somewhat efficiently, its also for college. I dont need a laptop with uber 1337 graphics card, but yeah.
Thoughts?

you should add Asus to the list too. I have an Asus with an i5 and it runs so f*cking smooth. I have it running 24/7 doing everything from MW2 online (real nice graphics) to watching full HD movies and everything runs perfectly smooth, even if I run them both at the same time. The HD LED screen is also great. The laptop costed me 950 euro's (1200/1300 USD).

Ironically, i was at office max earlier today, and one of their computer "experts" also recomended Asus. Though 1.2k is a bit over my ideal price range, but ill definetly check them out.

Dual cores are enough for laptops. I have a netbook and it can do everything i want it to. aero, 7 pro, slight gaming, web browsing, flash, and not die in 10 min on battery.

Lenovo Thinkpad (business oriented) series laptops. Best keyboards I've ever used.

I personally prefer dell. My sister has had an HP laptop and Desktop and they both died way too fast. She still has her dell. Plus they are very customizable and easy to personalize. I think HP tries too hard and doesn't deliver on it. That just personally of course, they both have decent ratings for the most part. Also, one that I've wanted to try out is Lenovo. http://shop.lenovo.com/us/products/laptops/They have great ratings, but I have never personally used one. Just heard good things about em. I had my eyes set on a Dell in October, but I might get one of those. They just look amazing and are also decently customizable.

Asus. Asus. Asus. Asus.
Trust me, don't go Dual Core. I thought I'd save a couple bucks on my laptop by going dual instead of quad but I regret it now. It's usually the only part of my laptop that won't allow me to play certain games on decent settings.
Plus, for some reason there's been a trend for new games to use a lot more resources from your CPU than your GPU.

I went dual instead of quad at first to save some money, but I want a quad now and I'd pay double what I did for the dual. I get the "Using 100% of at least 1 Cpu" error quite a bit when rendering Vids or playing a game or something. Quite annoying. You buy it thinking you won't use it for things like that... but you do.

Don't go asus. I know many people, including myself, that had issues with the screen fcking up. Unprofessional customer service too. Took About 3 months to get mine repaired and it was a huge fck around. Personally, i think toshiba make good reliable laptops.

but you might as well get a brand new laptop with better Ram and graphic card, and new windows version.

All I can say is stick with this Article: http://www.engadget.com/2009/11/17/lapt ... -hp-fails/Trust me no much have change since the last 3 years. Its either: EvGa wrote: Lenovo Thinkpad (business oriented) series laptops. Best keyboards I've ever used. ^This, or ExSoldier wrote: Asus. Asus. Asus. Asus.

I'm looking into the Dell XPS 17. Or well, I'm going to get it when I got the money. I7 core, 4 gb ddr3, 3gb graphics card (NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 555M) 3 guys from my class got it and it's a great laptop according to them. (and yes they're somewhat computer nerds )

Sure it can't play modern games but i am ocd about my performance. Lag makes me go insane and i haven't killed my netbook yet.

For laptops I wouldn't shop by brand. I've had great and terrible experiences with laptops from the same brand. I think you need to look at a specific model.
I would find 3-4 laptops with the best performance in your price range, then look for reviews to determine which one is better.
I wouldn't spend a lot on a laptop either. They aren't usually manufactured to last and the performance suffers from diminishing returns. Rather than buying a $1400 laptop that will be insufferable in 3 years, I think it's a better idea to spend $700 on a laptop now and then spend another $700 in 2 years.

WRONG THREAD!! Damn it Dom, you were the last post in this and the car thread. I posted my truck here. lmao. I know there is a delete option, but that's no fun.
Do not get a 2002 ford ranger and expect it to suffice for a laptop....
Shit... brb... going to the correct thread.
