I was wondering is it worth upgrading from a standard monitor cable to a DVI cable?

Would it improve the quality at all?

Yes greatly, I have the difference myself having two monitors, and my video card has DVI and normal, and I use DVI monitor for gaming, and normal for msn, fb, xfire, vent, skype. You see the difference in colors, by a whole lot, especially the white balance, it will also be easier on your eyes, without you knowing. It's worth it believe me

you lose a little quality with VGA cables due to conversions between digital and analog

If you can notice the difference you must have some insane vision going on or an unconventional monitor of some sort =\

Cables are a dime a dozen so doing an A/B test should be easy as pie, as in plug in one and try to guess if it's DVI or VGA.

There is. VGA is super outdated and is Analog. I hate when people say there is no difference. Makes it look a little more crisp.
Saying VGA = DVi is like saying weed = tobacco.

A lot of the time when you get a 'fuzzy' effect from VGA, it is because your refresh rate is not set properly. Most LCD monitors refresh at 60 Hz and VGA will often default to 75 Hz. Most gfx card drivers have ways of changing the refresh rate, and I'd say try that to see if it gets rid of the blur. Also changing phase/clock settings on your monitor can greatly alter the quality between VGA and DVI. With optimal settings you really shouldn't notice a difference, that being said, some monitors just don't do the conversion and other processing as well as more mainstream monitors and loss of quality does ensue.

I'd really just go with a simple A/B test..and potentially save yourself money (buying new cable or monitor or whatever).

Yup, companies like monster cable charge like 1000% more than they should..simply because they can and people buy their shit. It's unfortunate they also try to justify their price by saying there is a difference when in reality all HDMI cables are the same in signal quality..

Nope. Gold HDMI sends those 1's and 0's much faster than a regular one.
Spoiler!
