Well...i got a phone call at work today at 3pm from home saying my grand father had been taken to hospital and they phoned up home saying that we should come and see him as soon as possible.
Well i got home and afte picking up my sister and meeting the rest of the family at the hospital was told that my granddad would be lucky to see out the night and that we should expect "THAT" phone call in the morning...hes 91 and had a good life...but i guess its just a shock how it came out of no where and now am dreading the call.
Not sure why am posting this here, idk just needed somewhere to vent i guess...also when i got home from the hospital i dont know why but i shaved my tash and so i guess am out of movember as well.

that sucks to hear. my fear of death has always had to do with not having ample time to say my goodbyes. I lost my mum last month to lung cancer, though I was lucky that I got to spend as much time with her as i did.
best of luck with it all, satman.

Just want to say thanks to everyone...at work right now and got a call from home that the hospital asked us to come at 2pm. Hoping he will get well and make a recovery but being realistic i know its to say goodbye.
Also to those wondering we (family) decided to take i in turns to visit him as there are so many of us...only at work to keep my mind of off it.

September 8th my grandad pass, i lived with him, we went on holidays together, he looked after me, honest i always knew id find it hard without his support and not so shocklingly i do. Anyone who has the time to see their grand parents before they die is lucky, yeh its hard if not harder but silly little things i regret i never actually told my grandad i loved him, sure he knew it but thats not the point, been able to say good bye is something not everyone has. My grandad went into cardiac arrest 30mins before visiting hour, we rushed to the hospital but hearing that beep stop from half way accross the ward is chilling, i was an optimist, i did used to view death as something to celebrate but when it hits home so close its hard, since then iv boarder depression, hate my job, but tbh its more then just the death thats triggered all that im on an up atm stil sucks my point is, you got your chance to say good bye no matter what happens you shouldnt have any regrets, just try remember all the good memories you shared, smile try not to get overwhelmed by it all.

My condolences. But if it can make you feel better, I never met my mother's parents (died before I was born) and my last grandparent (father's dad) died when I was 6 years old. So at least you got lucky and had the chance to know him.

Wait a second. Everyone is offering their condolensces prematurely here... Kind of.... weird to say the least. From what I'm reading he hasn't passed away, but is in critical condition. It's kind of unclear since you used past tense to describe his life. Anyways, best of luck with the situation. I lost my last grandparent 2/3 months ago. It was my grandma from my father's side. Hard times

First of all, I hope he gets through it alright.
I know exactly how it is to get such a call. When I was in 4th grade (yeah, long time ago), I was at a public library playing some online game with some friends. Suddenly my phone rang - it was my dad. He told me that my grandmother just died. Now, I had known for some time that she was sick, but it's always shocking to get such a call.
And shocked was exactly what I was. I didn't know how to react and in fact, it took some hours before I actually realized what had happened. It was just.. unrealistic.
I guess you only actually get to appreciate what you have when you lose it. At least that was my experience. So yeah, from a guy who now have lost both couple of grandparents: Appreciate them as long as they're there!

You guys get phone calls? Jeez your all lucky, my dad sent me a message via MSN telling me my 57 year old uncle died of a heart attack, on the bright side i got a one line email wishing me happy birthday for my 19th! No but seriously it sucks balls i lost both my grand fathers one in 2004 the other in 2005... It really sucks. To see some one you love and loved all your life be so close to death...

I lost my last grandparent some years ago, it was my grandmother(mother side), but when i lost my mother side grandfather, i didn't even go to school yet(IIRC) so it wasn't hard, but he was awesome. And i'm 16 atm. Sucks not to have any when everyone else around my age has them.
Anyways, good luck.

Sorry to hear. It's never easy losing a family member, especially someone close to you. I've only met 1/4 of my grandparents, and my grandmother died when she was 65 in China, I was 7 or 8 at the time. That was the first time I experienced death in my family, but I didn't know what to think because I didn't know her that well. You're lucky you got to know your grandfather.
I went to China this summer and I got the chance to meet all of my dad's side of the family. I was only with them for about 3 weeks, but when I was leaving, I almost shed a tear because they were my family and I didn't know when I would be able to see them again. Just last month, my mom got a call from my aunt in China saying one of the cousins I met (My dad is the youngest of his brothers, my oldest uncle has sons at least 10 years older than me) was murdered in the community I stayed in.
I met his son, he's only 10 years old. It happened because his wife was cheating on him, and he went to confront the man she was cheating on him with, and ended up getting stabbed repeatedly. Remarkably, he was able to crawl down multiple flights of stairs before somebody spotted him and began calling for help. My other cousin ran and carried him to the nearby health center where he was later pronounced dead. When my mom told me, it still hit kind of hard knowing that one of your family members has died. What hurts the most is not knowing if justice will be served and that this is caused from infidelity which resulted in a death and a broken family.
Sad thread is sad.
tl;dr The only grandparent I knew, died when she was just 65 (I was 7-8) My cousin in China got stabbed to death last month.

RIP. For those who had their Grandparents passed away in a young age, you are lucky. I mean, of course, I feel so lucky to still have my grandparents but that day when it comes to an end is coming near and it's gonna be so critical for me... But for now, I will make them as happy as I can while I can still feel, talk to them.
