TLDR; What direction is this forum moving in?

The community has lost and gained members over the years. Now after the game Silkroad has been out for many years, the community is still here and discussions are still consistent.

Isn't it interesting that so many people have stuck around of this forum for so long? Silkroad itself has been on a decline for so long, yet here we are, this forum is still getting enough traffic for an active community to exist. Not everyone shares the same ideas and interests, this is probably one reason why there is always something to discuss. I've been to a few different forums, but never have I stuck around very long. Something about this forum has kept me engaged, something pulls me back everyday to do my daily browsing.

There is an a distinctive parallel in the community between those who don't play the game any more and those that still do. I'm guessing most people ended up here because of an interest in the game. Even so both camps don't really interact that much and only some occasional venture into the other sub-forum(s), often stirring up trouble. For example making Silkroad references in OT or OG is taboo and so is bashing Silkroad/those who still play the game in GD.

I've been wondering what will become of this community after Silkroad is finally put to eternal rest?

I think the reason why so many people stuck around is because Silkroad is pretty small (or it was in 'our' time) and then it's easier to get to know people and form a community. Once the community was formed I think the value of the game didn't matter much any more, and people stayed here if they liked posting in Off Topic in the first place.

If the game would die, and I really couldn't care if it did or not, I would still be up for a different, underground ( 8) ), 'OTL' somewhere else.

if SRO does die I guess SRF will die along with it after a longer period. maybee.
Eventually we'll all move on from SRF as we get older as I doubt anyone will stick around SRF for their whole life.

Just wait 6 months and post it. That's about how frequent these types of threads are created. I wish someone would search function my previous responses, to the same threads, and post them here.

SRF Topic Cycle:

(1) Topic about religion or global warming
(*) Choose from random list
(2) "I'm 14 and I kissed a girl, am I still a virgin?" topic
(*) Choose from random list
(3) "I'm 17 and I tried pot once, i'm a total pot head now" topic
(*) Choose from random list
(4) "SRF is dying" topic

RANDOM LIST:
-Video or article that went viral but gets posted after after everyone has read/watched it
-Discussion on Doron's flaming homosexuality with or without accompanying Korean pop video
-Ghosts, Aliens, or Ouija Boards (nuclearsilo)
-PC Help Thread
-PS3 vs Xbox thread that gets moved to other games
-American Politics
-Starting college/university
-Apple hate thread

We are due for a new religion topic. With Christmas coming, I would be surprised if it didn't come up. If it doesn't, i'll make a new account and start shit just so i'm not proven wrong.

I'll ask Ryoko if I can start colour coding.

But...

Quote:
The "X" comes from the Greek letter Chi, which is the first letter of the Greek word Χριστός, translated as "Christ".[2]
There is a common misconception that the word Xmas is a secular attempt to remove the religious tradition from Christmas[3] by taking the "Christ" out of "Christmas".

You could say I'm keeping SRF alive by following the cycle. However, I'm more interested in the idea of the forum changing. To clear things up, I tried to make the point that SRF is still alive after so long and that this fact is interesting. Is me questioning the future of the forum the same as me saying the forum is dying? If so, sorry.. I'm going to go hang myself and jerk off.

The forum will probably stay this way with people active for years to come as long as the website is still up. Also new people might start coming in when Silkroad Web finally starts up giving this forum new life whether OTL'ers like it or not. Also with a search for silkroad web we are still #2 result right after joymax.com

Would be cool to see these forums get a new look, although theres nothing wrong with phpbb. I'm just saying, its getting dated, but so is silkroad. how long does silkroad have left in its life span? i stopped playing that horrible excuse of a game years ago.

Besides your silly little OTL/OG cult you have going on here, there's still quite a few people roaming around OSV. Private servers are a huge deal now, since people can edit sro to play it how they think it should've been played. You know, before Joymax fucked it over.

Oh, and if the forum changed I wouldn't even know what to do. I'd probably just stop visiting it all together.

I'm rather curious what will happen with SRF after SRO2 launches. If I recall correctly it was set to launch in 2012. Think activity will suddenly rise immensely? I wonder if Ryoko will give the site a new look?
Im really hoping srf won't die anytime soon :[
It's the one site that is always open when I start my browser, but lately srf really has been declining; AC has never been this empty, OG just has like 3-4 topics ever getting posted in, even the OTL gets like 1 new topic per day at best.

I'm actually really looking forward to SRO2, not cause of the game itself, but because it might be what saves srf from it's slow death...

Oh please, why would you make Christmas about someone who doesn't actually exist? Oh, wait...

There is still remnants of a common interest in SRO with some of the members. There is also the idea that since we all liked the same game we might also share other things in common. I believe that's why most people stay here long after they've quit playing the game.

As for what direction the forum is taking I have no clue. It doesn't seem to be going anywhere. If you take a close look all you'll see is that it cycles...It's topics cycles and it's members cycles.

I personally think this forum is dying. Just my opinion.

OTL is more active than GD and that is not saying much.

Too many good posters got banned. And due to GD being a graveyard ppl are going elsewhere to discuss SRO.

GD is filled with "I haven't played in blah blah years/months whats new in the game" threads.

Gonna borrow my nephews line and 'I'm keep it Ben Franklin' with y'all....
Mods need to step up and be a bit more active. Post SRO news, info on updates, events etc etc that encourages discussion (and no the 'Announcements' aka 'ZERO REPLIES' page doesn't count). Don't just hit the reply button. Use the 'New Topic' button once in awhile. Cuz GD is on life support and the future of it is not looking too good.

^ That might be because of the state the game is currently in, plus all the private servers around.

GD will probably get some new life after the big update that's coming.

None of the mods actually play sro. Or have for a very long time.

Besides, Dom's too busy doing important things like practicing his "free style" skillz for an impending battle.
