It's getting a bit too much, really. I'm starting to getting annoyed by all the websites with those popups about SOPA.

I understand the issue but well... I'm sure something will be figured out.

You honestly think a bunch of old men know what they're talking about? Forgive me that I don't remember their names, but the old black guy. He was for SOPA, but his ignorance was helping amendments to the bill get accepted.

Funny how that works, right? Issa, Polis, that old lady.. forgive me I don't remember everyone actually knew what they're talking about. Polis had brought up a good point about pornography. It's the most pirated thing on the internet, but would we really want our money to be wasted to help those out? They're a business either way.

The entire bill is silly I'm sure we all know that, but to music/movie industry it's not. They called it off and waiting til next year to vote on it. Why? Probably because they'll have a better chance then.

No. At first it may seem like that, but when websites lose millions of views by americans that have the site blocked to them, revenue is cut heavily. American hosted websites could also be seized and taken down fully (not just blocked to american users). The range of problems this presents is far too much for me to explain and many of them elude me, but I can assure you this bill passing is very bad for everyone using the internet.

There will have to be a different version of the internet built......One that is owned by the people...

Some communities actually have their communication infrastructure built and all they require is just a connection to the local ISP and the town actually manage their infrastructure themselves....The users pay next to nothing for their connection because the price for connecting them to local ISP and thus the web is shared amongst members of the community.

Through the right process the city/town/community could bypass the local ISP and install their own equipment and connect themselves to other communities

If other communities around the globe does this then the people would own the internet...corporations would have to pay people to advertise on this.."people owned web"...would be nice.

I believe you misunderstood me.
All I'm trying to say is that even though I do understand how great a threat to the entire internet this is, I doubt that nothing will be done about it.

If the bill goes through (let's hope it doesn't), sites like Youtube, Facebook, imgur, upload.com and so on an so fourth will probably find a way past it, don't you think? And even if they do not, it will probably take some time to get a site shut down on a global basis.

I mean, they are not so stupid that they will all of a sudden close down Facebook and Youtube - two of the worlds largest websites.

China has youtube blocked, you realize that right? Facebook is a small step away..This law also stops an insane of amount of content being produced due to loosely relevant copyright laws.

A lot of users from YT or FB are ignorant about the violation into the Copyright. The are careless about it so, why pay for something you can watch it for free? It's common sense for most communities. This law will none but create chaos and people complaining. :l But it's, have to say, a big... kind of smart but stupid move from the government.

Yes, China has YT blocked. But I did not talk about China alone. I talked about every country in the world. For example, lots of countries will complaint if something like this gets through, making it close to impossible for anyone to close down an entire website for the entire world.

They get paid to say what you're hearing, if you are under the impression they strive for fairness and equality for all, you are confused. Start there, calling lions cats tends to not yield good results.

Are you addressing me or Toshi, Love?

I'd love to reply, just have a feeling you were actually addressing Toshi.

Toshi indeed, if you want a small comment regarding your comment ( yo dawg ) I would say you are suffering from the boiling frog symptom, you kinda end up cooked so is not exactly a good position.

Of course not with all the lobbying going on. The problem is that they do not understand what the bill is actually is and going for it. Those that understand what the intertubes is are against it.

Everyone knows, this isn't complicated. People do things for money, you/we are on the losing side.

Wow, I was shocked when I found this.
I always thought that Australia would be one of the first countries to be hit with massive censorship, too support their lack of R (18+) ratings for games. They've discussed it for a while now, and is the US goes down with this I guess we will be as well.

It's funny, they'd be helping the American public out more by abolishing the senseless socialist laws already on the books. Instead they continue to grow the long overbearing arm of the government, and as a result we go further into debt and lose more rights. At least at the pace this current administration is going (if I may borrow love's metaphor), we are starting to notice the water began to boil.
