I'm guessing it's equivalent to a 4.0 (highest in america?). I see many people with 4.0's, getting "100" as your average here is more or less impossible. Don't think I've ever seen something higher than a 93~. Only knew of three people graduating with a 90 average, one of which in science/math courses.

For reference 80 is the 'a-' cutoff limit and considered the 'honor roll'. 85-89 would be an 'a' and 90+ would be an 'a+'.

7/10

Different system in the Netherlands. For me it was a 7/10 when you're already on the 'a level'. If someone had 9/10 on a lower level my 7/10 (or 6/10 even) would still be better.
No one gets a 10 average, literally no one. There are some people with a 10 in a subject, but never a 10 in all subjects to get a 10 average.

Too bad I was an idiot and ruined my gpa from my freshman and sophmore year. At least I picked it up and it became I believe 2.8.

highschool doesnt matter, trust me.

Even in university grades doesnt really matter, because once you have a diploma on your wall, nobody can take it away from you.
And then, once your working, employers will not go and ask your college/uni for you grades before hiring you lol.

Here they don't. In fact even for my 4 months intership they didnt check the grades...
So yeah, in my case diploma > all. so good grades is of low importance, just need to pass the classes and get the diploma.

4.0 means you haven't gotten less than a 90 in any class.

Also, college gpa definitely matters if you are an engineering major. If you want to get into grad school the last 4 semesters are even more important.

Yea I'm saying getting a 90 there != getting a 90 here.

Also very true about the eng major. Any average lower than a C here gets you kicked out, and I think you need a B or higher average for grad school (though in my case I've heard they only look at the least 2 years).

In Ontario, very general:

If you answer all the questions correct, you get 80%. The rest is left off for going over what was asked.

In Ontario, they only take your grade 12 average. If there are more applicants than spots, they may consider the 11th grade or the other things you submit.

75 average (B in highschool) is what you need to maintain honours (and only in your degree related classes). If you're not getting an honours degree you can graduate with a 60%.

Grad school applicants are like undergrad applicants. The bar is raised depending on the supply/demand of applicants/spots. Some are hard to get into, while others are not.

If you're talking about getting into uni in this line, for Carleton/U Ottawa/Waterloo they all looked at my grade 11 averages, then made me keep an 80 average throughout grade 12 to keep whatever scholarship they offered based on grade 11, the same applied to everyone else I talked to enrolling in different programs.

For engineering in Carleton if you have a 65% or lower average (not sure if it's only in your program related classes, though I've only had 1 elective so far) then they put you on 'academic watch', one more semester of 65% or lower and you are kicked out of your program.

I did pretty terrible in high school having about an 82 average which is like a 2.5 i think? Failed algebra twice before I could get a C- in it on the third try. I definitely was not mature enough for the responsibilities in high school but I luckily got accepted to college. I just finished my fall semester of my sophomore year majoring in criminal justice and minoring in music and I have 3.77 GPA so far getting deans list every semester. High school was rough for me but it was definitely a learning experience.
