So Im about to buy a new phone, and I dont really know much about smartphones and such things. I'm torn between choosing Samsung Galaxy S Plus (Android) and Samsung Omnia W (Windows Phone 7). I have heard that Android is more easier to use because of all the apps avaliable, and Windows phones dont have as much to offer since they are kinda new.

Anyway, i got nice offers for these phones from two shops, its 24 months part payment.

Samsung Galaxy S Plus:
9,00 €/month for the phone (216 € overall), with 200 free text messages or 200 minutes of calls each month. I would have to buy the Internet connection for it, which is 2,80 €/month

OR

Samsung Omnia W:
8.00 €/month for the phone (192 € overall) and Internet connection for the part payment time, after that 2.90 €/month. Text msg costs: 0.069 € and calls 0.069 €/minute.

So, anyone could help me choosing, prices seem O.K for both phones, but I'm mainly worried of the OS. or you could tell fi you have a different phone in mind, but nothing over 300€ please...
I apologize if I used some terms that arent correct ones, I dont have any idea of their english names.

If I were to buy a new smartphone, I would definitely go with the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
First of all, it's Google's "flagship" phone, meaning it will get new major updates before any other phones get them. That alone is a huge advantage.

Now, if you're split between Windows and Android, I would definitely say go with Android! Not much more to say about that, really. Android is far superior.

As asusi said, the iphone is another way to go. It all depends on your preferences, really. If you're a tech geek like me and want to play around with the phone and have most customization options available, you should get an Android!
It is a really good phone indeed. But it's not right for everyone. I would never be satisfied with iPhone (aka Apple)'s very close security. When I say security, I'm not talking about virus/malware. I'm talking about how "closed" the phone software is. If I want to plug in my phone and check out it's data and copy/paste from folder to folder like I'm used to, I should be able to do that.
I do not want to rely on itunes to transfer songs, and I do not want to convert every single video clip because of my phones OS.

Anyway, this might turn into a flamewar between iOS and Android, and it was not really what I intended with this post.

Short version: Get the Samsung Galaxy Nexus because of it's new Android OS version and it's specs.

Personally I've always been a huge fan of HTC. Their phones look just pure awesome and work really well.

http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=868227

That's 600 NZD but when converted to pounds its around 300. Either that or Samsung, imo they're the best 2 in the business by miles.

Eh, I doubt the nexus will be their "flagship" phone for long. S3 is already underway and will be released in 2012. Specs and power-wise, I'd say the S2 wins for android phones. After using my S2 for awhile now, I love the layout so much more than apple's OS.

Overall, I'd say if you want the best, go for S2 or iPhone 4S, if you want to settle, Galaxy S is fine. Just don't do Nexus. It's like paying for a Galaxy S with a skin installed...

To compare:
The screen of the Nexus is better than the S2. The Nexus has a 1280 x 720 pixels with about 316 ppi pixel density, while the S2 has a 800 x 480 pixels at 217 ppi.
They both spot a 1.2Ghz dual core processor. The camera of the S2 is 8megapixel, while it's only 5 megapixel on the Nexus, though.
But on the other hand, the battery of the Nexus is 1750 mAh while it's 1650 on the S2.

Now, I am pretty sure what you meant to say was that your phone sucked, not the Android OS. There is a huge difference, which is also why some people seem to love Android, and some seem to hate it.
It's also the reason iOS fans are more loyal. The diversity of the Android phones is simply too large. You might have been unlucky, or didn't research enough, and therefore chose a phone running Android, that was not that good.
May I ask you: Which phone did you have?

Of course I cannot say that it's not the Android platform that you hate, but I've encountered many people who say that Android isn't that good. And 99% of the time, what they really meant was that the phone they've chosen, was not that good. When I say phone, I talk about hardware, Android skins and the manufacturer.
Also, Android phones come in both high-end, middle-end and eventually as well low-end. It is obvious that if you chose a high-end android phone with good hardware and a great integration of the Android OS, you'll be sure to have a better experience than if you chose a low-end phone.

I personally hate touchwiz, but you can easily put a better skin on it. If you root it you can pretty much put ICS on the S2. If you run quadrant Nexus scores are abysmal. 1700 vs over 4000 on the S2 both stock. Course my S2 is from tmobile so it has the snapdragon 1.5 ghz, but graphics isnt' as good as the exynos. Even then the 1.2ghz S2 still avgs scores well over 3500. From what I see, Samsung just tossed ICS on a not as good phone and called it nexus. Are you sure nexus will stay as the flagship phone? I'm pretty sure when the S3 comes out it will take the spot.

I dunno where the OP lives, but here Galaxy S are $99 and iPhone 4 are 99$ with a 2 year contract.

The Galaxy S3 will indeed be the new flagship, which currently is the Nexus. I'd really suggest you take a look at the Samsung Galaxy Note. Sure it's big, but once you see the screen you'll be blown away. Combined with the dual core processor and all the specs you need, this thing is just amazing. Will be getting one in 3 weeks when I can renew my current phone-contract.

As for the iPhone, I was planning on getting one, but the small screens of the iphones really annoy me. Once they fix that I might try out the iPhone.

I think you guys (you and heroo) are misunderstanding what a "Google Flagship" phone means.
It's basically a phone that Google launches together with one of their partners (Samsung, HTC, Sony etc.). They launch a new flagship phone every time a new major version of the Android OS is out (Android 2.0, 4.0 etc.). Therefore, yes, I am 100% sure that the Samsung Galaxy Nexus will stay the flagship phone of Google till Android 5.0 is out in one year.

The different between a Google flagship phone and any other Android device might be hard to see. But basically it means that Google has decided how the software should be integrated with the hardware, and the phone is built in a close companionship with the manufacture, but according to how Google believes it should be. Besides from that, you can always spot a Google flagship phone by the fact, that it does not have any skin on it (for example HTC's Sense).
So basically, a Google Flagship phone is Google's attempt to integrate software and hardware by themselves.

That's why I would rather chose the Galaxy Nexus over for example a S2, even though the Nexus has specs a little bit below the S2. Because it's not all about the hardware, it's about how well the software and hardware is integrated. Just look at iPhone, they're really good at that.

sorry, I thought you meant Samsung's Flagship, but the Nexus is indeed Google's Flagship.

Android sucks cause the apps are crappy, the touch screen is not synced well + the more apps you get the laggier it gets.

What do you mean by apps are crappy? The iOS appstore and the Android Market has nearly all the same apps. Some are exclusively launched for Android, some exlusively for iOS. That's just how it is.

Again, the screen sync has nothing to do with Android, but rather your choice of manufacturer.
I'm just saying, most of the issues you guys believe you've had with "Android", is actually the manufacturer of the phones hardware/integration of Android.

It's not about the iPhone, but I think Android is the only platform that supports Flash.

I am on my ipad right now and i can watch 90% of the videos posted on srf without going to the youtube app same goes with my iPhone, and ironically i have just read an article in a PC magazine where Adobe agrees with Steve Jobs and openly says that Adobe flash payer is literally a piece of shit for any phones where they are powerful or not and that they will be stopping the flash for phones, until they come up with a better solution, i will take a picture of the article and upload it to the thread for you to see...

You can watch 90% of all the videos, because 90% of all the videos posted on SRF are on youtube. I can watch all the videos on any website with my android. And I know Adobe will stop supporting Fash for phones, but until someone else comes up with something better, I'll stick with Android.
