No doubt freezing would be less "painful", it might take longer depending on either situation, but still less excruciating pain. Burning to death is pretty nasty. I'm a part time fire fighter and I've went into houses where the occupants had fallen asleep and got cooked by the flames... It's disgusting..
Freeze obviously. You'll be unconscious way before you die, burning has fun side effects like the fire creating a low pressure system surrounding your body and the air in your lungs is relatively high pressure, so as your screaming the high pressure system wants to get out and your lungs explode. Of course you can stay conscious with an exploded lung for almost a full minute. If your lucky the shock from your lung exploding will put you out though.
@above Temperature censors on your skin doesn't actually know the difference between hot and cold, just magnitude. Your brain assigns hot or cold depending on context. It's why sometimes getting burned feels like your hand is freezing and putting your hand in ice for a full minute has a burning sensation.
Freeze. Then again, it depends how quickly your body dips into hypothermia. I can simply fall asleep and die right there. Burning is much more agonizing and a whole 2 minutes burning would feel more like hours.

Goddamn, in what world is burning to death less painful than freezing to death?? I've read stories about how old inuit people just walk away into the icy plains and keep walking until they're tired, then sit down and die peacefully instead of rotting away in their camps. The way they spoke about it it seemed pretty ok actually.
Although suicide rates among Inuit seem high, I can't seem to find a website backing up my story at the moment, so I guess you can take it with a grain of salt.
Seriously how would you put yourself in such a situation anyway ?

If you were dropped in the icy oceans of the artic you'd die in about 3-4minutes....If you were set a blazed in flames you'd die quicker. But that would be the most painful method (the fire). So I think the real decision here is whether you'd like to suffer immensely for about one minute or suffer slightly less over a 4 minutes period.
I know what its like to freeze. The frost bite really hurts like hell.. But when I remember how much it hurts from getting burnt I'd rather freeze because I think you might reach a point during the freezing process where your body gets numb and you cant feel anything. Hopefully well before the 4 minute mark..
