That Must be “Treated,”
Quote:
Scepticism regarding the need for immediate and massive action against carbon emissions is a sickness of societies and individuals which needs to be "treated", according to an Oregon-based professor of "sociology and environmental studies". Professor Kari Norgaard compares the struggle against climate scepticism to that against racism and slavery in the US South.

Prof Norgaard holds a B.S. in biology and a master's and PhD in sociology.

"Over the past ten years I have published and taught in the areas of environmental sociology, gender and environment, race and environment, climate change, sociology of culture, social movements and sociology of emotions," she says.

The good prof is in London at the moment for the "Planet Under Pressure" conference, where she presented a paper on Wednesday dealing with how best to do away with the evil of scepticism and get the human race to focus all its efforts on saving the planet.

Seriously.. this kind of stuff is absolutely ridiculous.

May want to mention which side you are on, if at all. Also this is all bullshit, climate change is a cycle that repeats.

This issue is particularly annoying because of how blatantly manipulated it's.

I recently found this on my homepage on Facebook.
Image
Quote:
PLEASE SHARE IT , HUMBLE REQUEST ----

On a commercial street in China, little tortoises are found packaged as souvenir!!! These little tortoises are still alive and swimming inside a herbal solution. The store owner says it can live for 1-3 months. 5 RMB a piece.

This is too cruel and unacceptable!!! God knows how many little lives were slowly suffocated to silent death; their fate sealed in a bag!!!

Has the commercial world no more other ideas to make money!!!

Please help "Share" this. Hopefully some media or government will pick up this news and step in to stop this animal cruelty! Perhaps find the real victim and put an end to such uncivilized act.

The complete stupidity of people these days is depressing. They believe everything that makes them feel morally good that comes with a misleading picture.

A recent example of this is the KONY 2012 shit. Everybody who supported that should feel like complete idiots.

It isn't misleading at all! They are very much real. This was exposed back in 2008 with all the coverage of the Olympics in Beijing.
Seriously.. Such abuse of life in any form is disgraceful, and evil!
Seriously, why doesn't the government take action under the cruelty to animals law?

Who'll make more money if they got their way, the climate change crowd or the climate change deniers?

And yes it's a disease.

Seriously, global warming aside, the emissions that said to cause global warming have mesurable consequences on air quality. We know, proven and uncontested, that pollutants irritate asthma and can pose a serious risk to the elderly.

If you don't want to change our industries because of global warming, why not do it just to make the planet a nicer place?

Edit: You will see here that I used to buy into that cycle shit too. viewtopic.php?f=12&t=48676&hilit=global+warming&start=30 Interestingly enough, back then I was also a card carrying conservative and pro-Jesus. It's funny how when I became non-partisan, the cycle argument lost its strength.

I don't see the correlation though.

To stay on topic, and to add to what dom said, whether it's a cycle or the increased use of greenhouse effect products, it doesn't hurt to work towards making our planet a better place.

So we are going back to a time where the average lifespan was a lot shorter than it is today. But of course, the advances in medicine don't let that happen. :)

Ironically, this kinda proves her point.

Nowadays it's hard to tell what information is real and what information is forged, but the fact that our world is being negatively affected by the advance in technology is one we can't deny. How bad it is and how much needs to be done is a different, more complicated story.

Most stuff I see concerning global warming doesn't actually ask you for donations or anything of the sort. They juste tell you that you need to be more careful and that measures need to be taken and that big industrial corporative companies need to reduce their pollution. Maybe someone's getting money from these companies from fees and what-not, but is that really a problem?

And it's not like the treaty's that enforce certain limitations to industry regarding pollution don't actually reduce the malicious emissions.

If this thread goes to prove anything than Climate Change Scepticism isn't a disease, rather humanity is.

The problem I have with big issues like this is that it becomes increasingly difficult to determine whether or not the opinions of people are valid. In this thread alone, made by people who stereotypically are video gamers and not environmental researchers, I've seen a hand full of contradicting ideas and each person is claiming that their opinion is the one and only true answer. This thread is just a small fish, too. When you start to really delve into the meat of the subject, you find this same mentality of "You guyz must be wrong because I'm super smart!" that just fills the vast spaces around valid arguments. Be it climate change, racism, sexism, video game and it's correlation to violence: the real issue is ourselves.

Oh, but I've overstepped my mark. MONEY GRAB TOTALLY CYCLES NOT A DISEASE I'M RIGHT YOUR WRONG.

I'll play the Devil's advocate here (can you still call it that if I haven't yet chosen a side to begin with?) Low-cost fixes aside, there are big budget spendings towards a greener world. To what expense do these spendings take from? Education? Health? Military? It all comes down to investing for long-term or short-term outcomes.
