As said I'm on vacation this week, and I've been making some use of my time by learning guitar. I use a simple Peavey Generation EXP Stratocaster and it sounds great from blue grass tunes to death metal :D. I was wondering if anyone had some good videos to link or even websites. I've learned Smoke on the Water and Iron Man so far, but I don't have the chords down yet so it's memory based. You guys can also use this thread for other guitar related stuff if you wish :P

Also, my setup is Amp going to my PC, I use mixcraft for some acoustic, reverb, and distortion effects.

smoke on the water and ironman, good ol easy guitar tunes =D

i recommend learning "CAGED" which is basically...
C Major and C minor
A Major and A minor
G Major and G minor
E Major and E minor
D Major and D minor

it doesnt really matter about the chords but more the positions.
learning those chords will be a good start to a lot of other chords and can also be moved around on the neck quite nicely especially the E chord shape.

in rock there is something called a "power chord" which is something like:

e - -
B - -
G - 7
D 7 7
A 7 5
E 5 -

both of these are examples of power chords using the root and 5th of a scale to create a dominating sound.

put your pointer finger over ALL of the strings and the 5th fret and then your ring finger would go on the A string at 7th and tuck your little finger under at D string also at 7th.

moving that position around the neck will allow you to play 60% of rock songs =D

i dont know how far you are learning though so this may be noobish stuff but meh... thats my input
