The funk is wrong with football http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... layer.htmlQuote: A soccer referee in Brazil was gruesomely quartered and beheaded after he fatally stabbed a player on the field during a match. The match took place June 30 at Pius XII stadium in Maranhao, northeastern Brazil. According to Correio24horas, 30-year-old player Josenir dos Santos Abreu approached the 20-year-old referee, Octavio da Silva Catanhede Jordan, to argue a call. The two couldn't come to terms so Catanhede Jordan told the player to leave the field.
Santos Abreu refused and the argument turned heated when the referee allegedly pulled out a pocket knife and stabbed Santos Abreu multiple times.
The player died en route to the hospital. Fans outraged by the stabbing - believed to be the player's friends and family - stormed the pitch and cornered Catanhede Jordan. The mob showed no mercy as they quartered and decapitated the referee and then placed his head on a stake.

That's mob justice at it's finest. Managed to take his legs off no problem, but wtf, they had trouble with the wrists.
Blindfire, It doesn't really matter what we think he deserved, he's dead. Now it's for law enforcement to decide what the vigilantes deserve.
Also it kinda reminds me of a case that took place not so long ago. A man found another man raping his daughter or something, then beat the rapist to death. Can't remember what happened to the father, but I'd say the rapist got what he had coming, just like this ref.

I understand that retaliation was inevitable. But to say that a 20 year old deserved to be publicly dismembered during a sporting event is fucked up. Regardless of circumstance.

Yeah, for our culture that would be pretty farked up, but I'm sure this isn't out of the norm for theirs. Like places in Central and South America, or Asia and Africa. Also Squirt, not like it matters, but forum rules say you shouldn't link to such graphic material. (I'm not gonna report cause I doubt it will bother anyone, but just saying)

I could list a trillion circumstances for you but yeah .... It comes down to when you disregard another human life, you forfeit your own.

Here in America the refs go on strike because they don't think they are making enough...I wonder what they would want if this happened to one of the them.

Mob vengeance to this effect isn't culturally driven....Its more of a base human instinct that can be found anywhere around the world....Just need the right motivators...So I wouldn't be shocked if it happen in america....
It's pretty fucked up...even though I think the referee is a coward and does deserve some form of retaliation against him, I don't agree with the manner in which it was carried out because of the message it sends....
At the same time however, it's not hard to understand the reaction of the family and friends of the footballer stabbed....You'd probably go ballistic after watching your brother, son, friend being stabbed by someone.....

I dont think that is a good enough reason. "ah well, its part of our culture." its like when we see stoning in arab countries, its barbaric and violent! yeah he probably deserved the death "penalty" but not like that. its funny how australia ban Saints Row 4 because of violence intent and yet this is just dismissed as "Cultural"

The ref had it coming, but it went a little over the top imo. But it doesn't surprise me since in some places there is a lot of violence between fans of different clubs and stuff.

When I said this had a lot to do with their culture, I didn't mean this was traditional to just go around ripping people apart. What I was saying is, where most of us live, this kind of thing isn't very common, so we see it as completely chaotic. There in Brazil and many other countries like it, which have gorilla groups and cartel activities, this sorta behavior isn't abnormal and they see it very often. Meaning they're not processing this kind of violent act the same way we would. It's just like in America, one of our cultural traits is to eat ourselves into commas. Where others would see this as excessive, and couldn't believe a person could get so fat, morbidly obesity doesn't even shock us anymore. I'm not saying what happened was right or wrong, just saying it was taken to that degree of mutilation, because their threshold is different than ours. In comparison, maybe we would have just punched and kicked the guy into a comma or death.

He wasn't talking about what he would have done. He meant that if it had happened in the US, then that might have been the outcome.

Any way you look at your statement that's just very disrespectful... I'm pretty sure that anywhere in the world if a referee stabbed any player in front of a crowd something like this would happen afterwards, maybe to a different degree depending on security and who was involved, but Brazil doesn't see dismembering people or mutilating as a "normal" thing....

What? Public beheadings are the norm in Asia, South America, Africa? Have you even been to any of those places? Western arrogance at its finest Your type of ignorant "thinking" led to BS like White Man's Burden and all the fcked up imperialistic shit in history

I'm pretty sure this situation is complete proof of what I just said... Also I don't have to visit these countries to know what it's like.(Even tho I have traveled a bit, cept to Africa...) Why are you the one calling me ignorant anyways? Have you even left the USA? Hell have you even left your state? lol Ignorant thinking would be to believe that there is no differences between people in North America and Europe compared to underdeveloped and impoverished nations. Also, you're trying to draw correlations between my belief that these people's threshold for violence is different than ours, and taking people's land by force is a good thing. Not sure if you're just learning about what all that means, and somehow trying to throw this out for argument sake, but either way, it makes absolutely no sense. Go travel through Mexico down Central America, and on through to Brazil, brah, let me know if I'm wrong if you make it back.

He's just saying that there is a different level of reaction to these sorts of acts based on the culture. In a somewhat pampered and shielded society where something like this rarely (or never) happens, this violent act carries more of a shock value....
Some people in other parts of the world are shocked at the indifference most americans take towards mass public shootings...while americans are shocked at be-headings happening in other countries....
Either way, as I already said, violent crimes like these are not culturally specific...they can happen anywhere..

Trust me, Western civilization is not the only one civilized enough to be against murdering innocent people. I come from a poor-ass nation in Asia, and have been to poor-ass nations elsewhere, and ridiculously enough, they are all actually normal people, not barbaric savages that go around ripping peoples heads off at soccer games. Crazy huh? Tbh I'm not sure if you are trolling or someone hacked your computer, that is a ridiculous level of ignorance. "Go travel down to Mexico and prove me wrong"? What? Get out of your damn bubble. Look up what the White Man's Burden is if you dont know it, don't rub your ignorance on me bruh. @BuDo; Yes but the way he put it, he acts like these are normal, usual things in Asia/Africa/South America and people go around killing innocent people for no reason. Its ridiculous Western ethnocentrism. Also, he talks about it (mob violence) as if its only exclusive to Asia/Africa/South America, ignoring ghettos and crimes in US/Europe, because they are all angelic fairies there, right?

I don't act like anything lol... I was responding to Blindfire's reaction to Gaige's post...Trying to explain that because we're pretty much sheltered from such mutilations taking place in our environment, we become more shocked/outraged by this behavior. Didn't say it was isolated to these regions, just that it's a more common occurrence. You made the leap that I was saying everyone in these countries and continents does that all day errrday, no problem. Again, I said what I said, you spun it, and turned it into some stupid shit about imperialism... Side note... I actually LOL when I ready your rebuttals. It's so obvious you try to spin it into a subject you've recently learned about, like it's news to everyone else. I'm not subscribing to your B.S. If you don't like what I have to say, disagree with it, don't spin it.
