So for the past 2 months I've been in a networking programming class learning about TCP and somewhat of UDP. It's basically based off magic from the ancient wizards of the 70s. That's what I've learned. Programming for networked games? JESUS Farking CHRIST. "Make a networked battleship!" Sounds easy, right? WRONG. WRONG ON EVERY LEVEL. And this is straight up in the cmd prompt. Other than that, I for one am greatful for these ancient wizards for making TCP to exist. I can't wait to make a networked asteroids game.
Oh it also helps that we're using winsock which pretty much nobody uses anymore apparently.

haha yeah We had some of those classes last semester. I've still got an assignment left for it to do, although they're comparatively simple.
Gotta setup a small server and connect a Beaglebone Black to it (kinda like a Raspberry Pi) to measure optimal packet sizes and whatnot.
But that stuff is complex as hell and incredibly impressive. It's almost unbelievable how well the system functions and how foolproof it is, considering how early in the computer era it was invented.

lol I know how you feel... I use to think that networking was fun and interesting but it wasn't that fun and interesting for me (personally) to pursue it any further....Don't get me wrong it is good stuff to know but I lost interest along the way..... I withdrew from all my networking courses and got into a different program all-together when I was studying Information Technologies....

I enjoy networking, and that's why I run a hosting business The core concept and math behind the a lot the technology is simple enough, you just need a good professor to lay it out.

Imagine a neckbeard that wears a tin foil hat. That's my professor in a nutshell. He's extremely knowledgeable of networking, but holy crap he's a bad teacher. Next you're going to tell me you do all that in assembly, right?

Networking is easy, that's why I complain to every game developer that doesn't get it right on the first try.
