I've been following MWC 2014 and all I felt was... all those companies have nothing newer to offer, they're just making up new size of phone, adding heart rate monitor(really?) or an extra 0.2 inch to the screen size, this is becoming ridiculous...
what new features would make you think of buying a newer phone, if there's anything you need your phone doesn't already do well?
I'll start instead of double posting I started with Nokia 5210, then I upgraded to Nokia 6600 which had a vga camera, colored screen, wav ringtones and mp3 player, my next update was to Nokia 7210 which was unintended as it was a gift.. what's better that really affected my usage, is ability to browse facebook and use web browser (opera mini), now I have Xperia C, it's a perfection for me, it's like a mini pocket PC with a couple of cameras, now that I'm able to afford upgrading to any flagship phone, there's nothing special about any of them that I need and can't find in my C!
- Some worthwhile battery life - Tactus Tech - More stable operating systems (I see a lot of them performing badly...) - Tougher designs, preferably a bit thicker as well. Too slim doesn't hold well and is easily dropped.
- Stripping of marketing features (ie. fake, useless features that just sound fancy but have no use). There's not a chance in hell that these phones need quad core CPU's for instance, it's not really making them faster. You could get more done and probably faster too on an old pentium 4 than on these mobile quad cores. The focus needs to switch to functionality rather than marketability.
ie. Solve the existing problems, not the problems that weren't problems in the first place.
Add at least 2 of the above and I might consider buying a smartphone. Right now I can't help but feel ripped off if I buy one. Sadly it's starting to become hard to function without. Everybody is almost blindly assuming you have one.

I have a Nexus 4 and I can only think of 2 reasons why I would upgrade. First being a better camera and that's a big one, second a bigger screen, this one I don't feel as strongly about.
Actually I am sure that as parts get smaller they will require less power to run and that would be another reason to upgrade, once that is significant enough. Other than that I am happy to wait for new awesome things like the tactus to arrive.

Your phone is good, I wouldnt upgrade at this time, there is nothing new worth upgrading your phone. I have Galaxy S3, Im thinking to upgrade phone, but still nothing I dont already have. My phone is very fast, great camera, I dont really dont need better one, until there is phone that leaves me with WOW effect like my S3 did back in the day.

Got a S3 too, probably going to a S5 depending on the early hands on reviews. I want to know about battery life and shit first before I get it

My first phone was a Motorola C113 which I got from my sister. That was in 6th grade I think. Then at some point I got a Nokia 7070 Prism which lasted about half a year IIRC, I fell on it and the display broke. Then I got a Nokia 5130 XpressMusic when I was like in 8th or 9th grade. I still have the same phone today in 12th grade. I wanna get a smarphone though, an S3 would be nice and not too expensive, probably gonna buy that at some point. I don't like not being able to use Instagram. I'll probably make a Twitter too when I get a smartphone, not for posting stuff, more for following others.

I know that feel. Our philosophy teacher assumes everyone has one and he has given us tasks that require looking shit up on the net and since I sit alone I have just done nothing in these lessons or tried to think out the answers myself.

I still have Samsung Epic, Galaxy S1. I'd love a Galaxy S5, pretty much for more power and speed. Have more things open, play bigger games more smoothly etc. Android 4+ is out now, but i'm still on 2.3 Gingerbread. I've put some Ice Cream Sandwich roms on it, but I don't like Android 4 . I suppose I gotta get used to it eventually.
With heart rate monitor and fingerprint scanner and stuff I wonter how long before we get Omnitools and stuff lol.

Isn't the Nexus 4 screen size just perfect? I love it. It's bigger than an iPhone but smaller than a Galaxy S3/S4

I upgrade phones but just because I break them a lot. Like just last year I went through two Nexus 4 (screen cracked) then an iPhone 4 that I got for a100$ (screen cracked) then an iPhone 4s (sold it because I was bored of iOS7) and now I'm back on Nexus 4 (just paid 100$ to fix the screen). When I get bored of Android again I'll probably switch to an iPhone 5/5S.

I was referring to the teach yeah. With that said, I can't help but feel that Bitch is gender neutral. Calling somebody a little bitch or a bitchn*gger or some other thing seems to be gender neutral, why can't a regular bitch be as well I mean I know it's a female dog, but why are the other versions neutral, yet the regular one reserved for females D:

I have an xperia mini that I got as a birthday present a few years ago I'd buy a new one only when when this one stops working or gets stolen or something because I only use it to talk, text and use maps to know where the shit I am; I don't need another machine to take care of and update the system whenever new one pops out and stuff. it's too small to read books on (and pretty uncomfortable), and I'm not too interested in playing games on a phone either. my ebook reader and desktop keep me busy at that. what else can you do with a phone then? if I had to choose, I'd choose some with a better camera; not that I take a lot of pictures though.

I have an S3 with a cracked screen but it's fine for me. My contract will be up soon and with the S5 coming out the S4 will probably be free with a 2 year contract but I don't really want/need it. I'll just wait for something else, maybe a new Nexus.
The only reason I've thought about getting a new phone is to get the service that is only 35$, with unlimited talk, text and 2gb of data, but I would need to pay full price for a phone which would be around 400 or more(I don't know what phones sell for these days). I won't be doing that anytime soon.

I have the Nexus 4 and it's the first time I've felt I have no need to upgrade my phone past the 1 year mark. I communicate on the phone a lot now so I feel I need to switch to an iPhone. I like to mess with my phone a lot, wipe it, flash new roms, new kernals, make apps, etc. I just want a phone that works, doesn't tempt me to be free. I'd still keep for the features but won't use it as a phone. Also ffs someone please help me XD, I have shitty mic quality when I'm not on speaker and no one on XDA seems to have an answer....I've flashed proper radios/roms and nothing :[ I've tested through AT&T and T-Mobile by calling people who have Verizon, Sprint, T-Mobile, and AT&T and they all say I have shitty mic quality unless I go onto speaker. I just got a Galaxy S4 a few days ago. My dad put me on part of the family plan. It's kinda big and awkward. It's alright but it has so much stuff in it I'll never use ever.

Blasphemy!
The bloatware is annoying and useless. But go sploring in the market, lots of cool stuff. And games.

I can imagine it's a little awkward for you yes xD You can always flash it and put a clean android on it. Get rid of the touchwiz.

You mean all the games I have right here in front of me on my computer and Kindle?
