EDM is is the general name for all of the genres that are electronic and you can dance to. Haven't seen the term being used the way you talk about. I know Monstercat labels some of their uploads as EDM, but that's just because they can't classify it as anything they already have in their genres list.

Nah broham. EDM is a blanket term for anything electronic that you can dance to that is music.

From trance to house to dubstep to hardcrore to dnb, it's all EDM

yeah i know its supposed to eman this but people have been using it lately to label the mainstream electro-pop

and this is why i though he was refering to this when he used edm and say he liked hardcore more.

I'll admit it's kind of a shame that EDM covers the pop electro house we hear on the radio today, but it is all technically EDM still. I haven't heard of anyone using it to describe on genre only
