imo sp farming is totally a waste of time and inefficient
here a scenario with characters a and b
a) same lvl mastery as character lvl = 50/50 split
b) 9lvl diff in mastery and character lvl = 5/95 split
so my point is character b the sp farmer needs 10 kills to = the exp of a
while a onli needs 2 kills to = the sp of the farmer y sp farm?
if anyone has a reason y it should be used pls give a counter argument

I think keeping -3 up to level 40 is enough just to be sure your getting enough, after that -2 or even -1 seems enough.
The myth of having to farm over 10,000+ sp though is a waste of time, I've never had more than 1200 and I've got both my magic and weapon skills more or less the same as my character level plus all my skills are as high as possible for what I need so yeah heavy farming is pointless in my opinion.
If you get yourself an exp scroll you get double sp anyway and you can get 500 in about 90 minutes.

people sp farm, so later on they dont have to care about sp.
if you dont farm, you'll most probably need to keep a gap between your lvl and masterys to get enough sp to learn skills from mostly 2-3 skilltrees. if there is a gap, that means your char is weaker then it could be with all skills equal to your level.
sp farmers get this needed sp in theyr early levels. your skills dont really matter if you are only killing bandit archer. but looking at my chase, i suck in every pvp fight with my skills 7 levels behind
so. if someone farms sp early, later on he can keep his masterys and skills high, so he will be stronger compared to same level chars who have theyr skills behind them.
also, sp farming means killing a lot more mobs before reaching the next level, having much more chance for drops, getting more money.

The thing is though when you get to level 52+ and there's no more quests, the exp needed is well over 10 million per level, I think level 60 is something like 25 million so by the time you do level up you've farmed a couple of thousand of sp points anyway, more than enough for what you need to upgrade your stuff each time.

there ARE quests above lvl52. in fact, there's only a few lvls up there in which you don't get them. the longest questless period that i know of is 41-45.

Really? Oh well I'm glad to know that lol
I've only seen that one quest guide and that stops at 51 so I assumed that must be it, do you have a list of the other quests?

i was asking about efficiency
sp farm = lower lvl than the one who doesnt in the same amount of time
which also means sp farmers are less rich cause the other guy is already finding more expensive drops
and also a better pvper since he is always lvls ahead of u no matter how up to date the sp farmers skills are
1month sp farmer prolly still lvl 20 faming sp while non farmer already 30++
2months sp farmer lvl 30 with all the skills he wants possible but non farmer already 38++ and so on
non farmer will at all times have more of an edge money wise,pvp/thief/hunter wise over the farmer

52-60 theres a white-faced spider quest and Yeti quest, neither give sp exp -_-.
I started farming sp when I goto 60, its definatly not a waste of time >.>, lvl 53 mastery, each Devil Yeti I get 200 sp exp, with double exp I get 1sp per kill wich is pretty nice even though I dont kill all that fast, 7200sp now, get usualy 600+sp a day(thats only counting the double exp time, havent been trainging much without it) , duno how good that is but its definatly good to me since I never sp farmed untill now.

Hi DJ, assuming a player has their skill level the same as their character level for maximum exp does the kill amount increase per monster? Level 43 maongs give me about 1600 so at 60 would the yetis give much more than that or does it stay roughly the same depending on the level differences rather than how how level the monsters are. You wouldn't get like 10k exp for yetis just cuz their level 60?
So like when I'm 44 it'll be bunwangs that give me the 1600 and the next level up monster will be about 2000.
Just wondering cuz at level 60 only getting these kinda exp's must take an awful time to level up.
How long has it taken you to reach level 60 and how often do you play?
I know what you mean about playing without the scroll, once you use the scroll and see the big difference playing without it just doesn't seem to cut it anymore lol
Thanks.

Yea it increases per monster depending on thier lvl, like if you get 1600 right now for maongs if bunwangs are higher lvl you will get more exp no matter your lvl.
At lvl 60 with lvl 60 mastery I get like 3200 exp per yeti I think.
I have been playing since alpha, taken since first beta opend to get 60 a few days ago, all though I have kinda quit for a couple weeks at a time a few.

non farmer will at all times have more of an edge money wise,pvp/thief/hunter wise over the farmer sp farmers DONT want to level up fast. most dont want to level up at all! they farm theyr sp until they decide they have enough. then they level up theyr skills. from here they will level faster then anyone who has a lvl gap sp farmers have more money then others. if you spend a month to get to lvl 20 you have most probably more gold then someone who got there in 2 days. simple Spurs wrote: 1month sp farmer prolly still lvl 20 faming sp while non farmer already 30++ 2months sp farmer lvl 30 with all the skills he wants possible but non farmer already 38++ and so on
sry this is nonsense. you cant compare a lvl20 sp farmer to a lvl38 non farmer
ok. the problem is, you are talking about farmers *while* farming. im talking about them after they finished it
sp farmers, *while* still sp farming are weak like nothing. but they will be much stronger then most same level chars *after* they finished farming and level up skills. sp farming dont means they will farm through the whole game..
they bore the life out of themselves for weeks to be the king of hill afterwards

ok, first of all the split is nowhere near 50/50 for character with no gap. yes, it is at around level 5, but the higher you go the more exp you get and the less sp. unless you plan on only using one or two trees, you most likely WILL need to keep your masteries at least a couple levels back.
now, i didn't say to keep them at -7 or -9 like some people do. in my opinion, that IS wasteful and inefficient. for starters, you get WAY less total exp if you have a high gap. meaning if you got say 100 exp and 40 sp for no gap, you might get 90 sp and 10 exp for a high gap. so you gain less sp than the exp you're giving up. doesn't make much sense to me, but people do it.
also, you DO gain SP while you level. so i don't se the point in farming 10k to start with. you won't use 10k by level 30 most likely, and by then you'll have gained even more sp. yea, it doesn't hurt to have a buffer, but 10k or more seems a bit excessive.
of course, like i said, keeping your mastery even would be hard for most builds, since they rely on skills from 3-4 trees. most non-farming people seem to agree that just keeping you masteries about 3-5 levels back should be completely fine. personally, i keep mine -3, and have had no problems so far. i use 4 trees, cold, blade, light, and force. if you run into SP trouble you can always just drop it back a level or so, and then resume.
also, as far as i can tell, keeping your skills 3-4 back won't hurt you much in PvP, etc, as long as you know what you're doing. granted, as choulee said, keeping them 7 back most certainly would, but that's another reason it doesn't make much sense to me. i mean, think about it. 3 levels of a weapon mastery = 3% damage. same goes for elements. you'd think that would make 6%, which is nice, but it doesn't. for STR players, that 3% more on your imbue will only add to the magic damage, which isn't that great. for INT'ers the weapon mastery only adds to physical, which is negligible in most cases. for a hybrid this is great, but it's still only 3% overall.
for other skills, most you could only possibly level once in 3 levels time. and for most of them one level doesn't show much difference. sure, you're slightly stronger, but in PvP it isn't always the strongest that wins, but the smartest.
also, another reason i hear for farming is that if you spend the extra week or two to farm, then you can keep a zero gap afterwards to level faster. wait a sec, did you just say you'll purposefully NOT level to make yourself level faster in the future? huh? i mean, i know what you mean, but it still seems rather... backwards to me...
basically, it's not that hard to adjust your SP gain on the fly, so why waste a week or two(or more in some cases), when it doesn't really gain you anything in the end?

i used to have a 3lvl gap as well. but i upped my masterys up to 31 (at lvl31) to get flying dragon. after this i decided to get some fire and light buffs (so i was leveleing 5 masterys at this time), thats why im sort on sp since. it was a mistake
now i need about 1,5k sp more to get my skills to 35 and so my gap back to a 3lvl one with wich i will be fine again

What is your highest level character, Spurs? Because pardon the assumption, but it sure doesn't sound like you've got past level 20 yet.
And where are you getting those numbers? My understanding was a bit more like this:
a) same lvl mastery as character lvl = 90/10 XP/SP split
b) 9lvl diff in mastery and character lvl = 10/90 XP/SP split
Don't get me wrong, I'm not a huge advocate for extreme SP farming either. But maintaining at least a 4-6 level difference at lower levels is almost mandatory if you want access to many of the more useful skills at level 30+. Trust me, I'm at level 29 now and I'm just barely going to have enough skill points for my two nukes at level 30.
Now granted, I'm a pure INT build - I need Force skills to perform in the game, otherwise I do squat for damage. Perhaps if you were a pure STR build, with a very, very nice weapon, you might get by without farming... but I still doubt it.

so, he didnt run out of sp.

Nghhahh sp farming aint that bad,
First off all of you guys are just asking about the sp difference and the xp differenced compared to that one and this
But the main difference at sp farming (which I believe is probably done at the bandit stronghold) is the amount and speed that you kill the baddies. There you kill non stop hordes comn at you at no end, killing way faster then what you'd do when your running here and there and waiting for things to spawn to kill.
Killing things when your a higher level is slow assss, compared to farming. It is a hell harder tedious job to get the sp needed later on i reckon. Even if the difference isnt changed by the amount, but the speed!
And a advantage that I didnt find was ChouLee saying that sp farmers do it coz they can become richer, which I dont think is the case at all (well for me) as many people who sp farm dont bother with the time to pick up cash, getn the maximum amount of time to sp farm. I believe that they have a source of funds, I borrowed about 400k from a friend lol (which i payed back with interest) because with the rate that you go through potions and repairing is fast
In the end it works out, the quests afterwards, for example 600 chakji kills, are a godsend compared to boring sp farming. Sp farmers can level fast because theyve been through the hell of sp farming. 20,000 kills for 10k sp is well, worse then getting 150 ghost eggs haha
Conclusion, faster killing is the main point i think, "D

yea, but you're killing faster for a week, when you could have gotten most, if not all, of that sp while leveling anyways. this is what i don't understand, lol. either way, when you level up, you're gonna be killing at roughly the same speed afterwards.

I don't understand this at all. There is no way I will have enough SP unless I keep my masteries at least three levels behind. On the other hand, I have five masteries, so that might have something to do with it...

it's really a matter of personal choice... if you hate sp farming so much... just... don't touch it?
on the other hand... if you think it's useful, then do it.
it's beneficial either way. i don't really see a need to debate what is "better"

No, but if you have a lot of masteries you WILL eventually run out of SP. I haven't even added my fifth mastery, and I've only got about 350 SP. Of course, I DID waste a few on the sword and bow skills, and I'll get them back...but still. I'm lvl 20 now, and when I reach lvl 30 and want to get my masteries to lvl 30, I need over 5500 SP. That's not including the skills themselves.

It seems like no matter how much I farm, I still come up short in the end.
My masteries always 3 behind simply because i CANT raise them I don't have enough SP
So I farm with them 4-5 behind for many levels, and I am STILL short
But I will tell you this
Level 60 with poor skils >> Level 50 with great skills
50 will still die.
Level difference is big factor in combat. Level is more important.
@DJ
Grinding for just SP has to be uber boring; with no quest to do or no experience gain. Right? That would suck
Maybe when I am 52ish I will get to 60ish without spending SP's. Farm hard and early, to avoid the punishment later?
Are the bow skills more important to level than magic skills? ADB, SB, arrow relay, etc?
Then again, I'm only 4x. Will I get to 60? Heh heh, maybe some day.

No actualy its not all that bad, at least with double exp, but without it yea its pretty boring.
That would depend on your build if they are more important or not I guess >.>.
