Yep the movie.
In a word, AWESOME. Intense, and made me want to shout out f***in OWNED in the theater (couldn't but wanted to )
Well, if you see it, post what ya thought Got a bit touchy feeling in some parts which didn't seem to mesh with the whole "We are killing machines" ideology of the Spartans.
For more info on the real historical facts of the battle, wiki does a good job. Battle of Thermophylae (sp?). Movie does do well to be quite accurate about it.
It's a must see for the big screen. There is no way DVD at home will do it justice.
And that's my 2 cents
p.s. It's made me want to become a Pure STR Blader! lol

I love the actual history of it, so the movie was even greater because of it. Standing up to a whole army with such a small group by using a choke point to make it even. And not backing down to the challenge even when out numbered so massively. Knowing you will die but still charging and fighting with every breath to protect your country. Its such a bad ass story in general, but that movie made it all the more sweet. And yeah them all being ripped like they were born with dumbbells in their hands makes them even cooler, and makes you want to go to the gym.

Eh. you wont get even close to the same effect. This is one movie that I will have hard time watching at home when it comes out. Just doesn't do it justice.

This is part of the Spartan lifestyle, believe it or not. At the age of 7, young Spartan boys were sent to the barracks to start training. They were assigned a "trainer" of sorts. This person usually shared intimate moments with the young warrior. This was definitely not uncommon, and it was not homosexual in todays terms. Just the way things were.
At the age of....20 I think....the Spartan warrior could marry, but still could not leave the barracks. (They often snuck out to have relations)
Then, at something like 35, they could leave the barracks if they wanted to. Most didn't. They lived for battle. Part of the reason for this lifestyle is because the Spartans were highly outnumbered by the Helots (slaves of sorts in Sparta, but they were different in that they were state owned) and the Spartans were always scared of a revolt.
The training was brutal. I am going to see the movie tonight and I hope it lives up to what actually happened. That's the only downfall of going and watching a movie about an actual event when you actually know the story.
I'll definitely be posting here again later.

Yeah Mont they have that in the movie, them being taken at 7 and getting trained. All of that is true. They would train on the mountains. And if a child wasnt fit to be one, because of some sickness or too small or whatever, he walked the plank aka they tossed him off the mountain =/

Yeah...they wouldn't always throw them off a cliff. It was simply called "exposure". They would often put the child out away from town and just leave it. It was then the "will of the gods" as to whether it would live or not.
I watched the movie last night. It was good. Not 100% realistic, but like Dian Jie said last night in game, what movies are? I would say more about it, but I don't want to spoil it for anyone.

@Montolio they were not homosexuals but heteralsexual as they would only marry to have kids, its one of those ancient philosophies where you need bonds to have your comrades so you guys can fight better

That's because there is no such thing. What would you do, only have ONE side speaker and the other side have nothing?

Never said they were homosexual. The reasoning was that you would, of course, fight for someone you cared about, but you would fight even harder for someone you loved.
