ok kids, this is a question for you. actually, a few questions.

do you get disciplined by your parents for talking back?
-when i was younger if i talked back, i got smacked and grounded.

Do you kids have chores?
-when i was a kid, i had to mow the lawn, vaccuum the house, do the dishes every night (we had a dishwasher but mom didnt like it so i had to wash them by hand) dust, clean my bathroom, and pick the weeds in the back yard. I had to do all this without getting an allowance.

It just seems today like people don't discipline their children anymore...

when i was a kid i couldnt play video games longer than maybe 30 mins to an hour every WEEKEND... and nowadays kids can play for hours even on the week days... it just doesnt seem fair.

Was my childhood just really tough or is it different nowadays?

discuss.

My father/mother would listen to what I have to say and then decide what to do. Never got grounded as I know what I am allowed to do. My father doesn't care what I do as long as I let him know.

I started of with 15 minutes, and ended up to unlimited time. My folks just don't care anymore I guess. (They actually think it's great that i'm so good with computers)

Was my childhood just really tough or is it different nowadays?
Not really, I guess it benefits you in the end, so it's not though. You should be happy they did

-I get grounded for 6 weeks if I get just ONE "B" on my report card.
-If I talked back, parents cut off my internet.
-I got grounded through my Christmas break for hitting my brother.
-I set up the table and unload the dishwasher without getting paid.

Well, I'm 15....And lets see.
I do talk back to my parnets, but they both know i'm bigger than them both. I'm taller, and my dad realized i'm stronger than him a few months ago so...They don't ground me or do anything bad! :D

and for chores wise...I actualy offer to mow the grass, and i do dog food/water with out them telling me...but that was then. Right now my dad has left our family cuz of problems, and last month my mother went to rehab..So right now it's just me and my big sister at the house....So i have to do chores! :x

I can't stand strict parents, its wrong. Look what their kids end up being.
Parents that treat their kids like are just so wrong, look what some of those kids end up to be. No offense psych but those problems are partly because of the way you were raised.

I have a friend whos parents are strict as a motherfuucker and that kid is a pussy, a nothing. Another friend whos parents let him do everything, and didnt give a shit, and hes a full stop drug addict.

It's all about how your parents raised you

do you get disciplined by your parents for talking back?
-when i was younger if i talked back, i got smacked and grounded.
when i was 8 or younger i got my mouth washed out with soap or spanked

Do you kids have chores?
-when i was a kid, i had to mow the lawn, vaccuum the house, do the dishes every night (we had a dishwasher but mom didnt like it so i had to wash them by hand) dust, clean my bathroom, and pick the weeds in the back yard. I had to do all this without getting an allowance.
did and still do

It just seems today like people don't discipline their children anymore...

when i was a kid i couldnt play video games longer than maybe 30 mins to an hour every WEEKEND... and nowadays kids can play for hours even on the week days... it just doesnt seem fair.

ummm, you have to look at more than one aspect of my life...

i have a good job (even if i lose this job, i have the skillset to get another good paying job in the same field), i have my own place that i am buying, i have a great credit score, i pay all my bills on time, and i am only 21.

the drug thing is mostly genetic, everyone on both sides of my family were drug users. its practically impossible for me to get away from that.

you have to look at more than one aspect of someone's life before you say things like that. i know for sure that if my parents didnt teach me the way they did and werent strict on me, i wouldnt be able to keep a job long enough to have all the things that i have now. not to mention i have been working since i was 14 (havent been out of a job since then).

Didn't mean to refer to you only, sorry for that, i just meant it in general.

But yea you should be proud of the fact that you are 21 years old and run your own life completely, house, job, GF, etc.

Theres a difference between strict parents and demeaning parents. Everything in moderation. When kids are young they need someone smacking them around sometimes. I can't stand going into a store and hearing some whiny 8 year old brat screaming about what he wants or thinks he needs. When i was 8 the worst i did was wander off absent mindedly but god forbid i ask for anything in a store unless it was offered to me. I cleaned my room, the bathroom, did the dishes and didn't get any allowance.

As i child grows up its the parents job to realize when beatings stop working and grounding helps. Of course there are some kids who just won't give a shit but i'd like to think i had strict parents and im pretty sure i turned out pretty good.

i ussually don't talk back so this one stays empty

i rarely have chores because i have to focus on school. when im free though i get to do chores now and then...ussually mow the grass (but i really like to make loud noises so i enjoy it)

i started of with pretty much unlimmited but now my parents are trying to give me a 3 hour limit. (i used to be scared of the computer when i started off because i thought the dudes in age of empires really died)

i guess your child hood was a little tougher than mine is but then again...

i got seperated from the computer for 6 months because of a few low grades at school actually i've been free just since april...

Well as I see it, you have(had) very strict parents and several drug addictions, which well... I don't define as doing good in life.

Anyways, on topic(I'm 15): I got smacked by my mother up until like 5 when I did wrong things. After that everything went downhill with my mother, she's become extremely depressed and spent the most of her time when I was 8-12 in bed. Seeing as she was in bed, my father working in Germany(Cheating my mum there, which made her depression even bigger) I did not get much attention at home. My parents weren't parenting so I didn't get raised strict or anything. I have never truthfully experienced a real family where parents act to be one and be firm/strict on me.
I have turned out fine. I am doing very well on school and have much friends, I'm social and all that stuff. So it all didn't matter for me, I've only become more independent and a much stronger person.

it takes over, you need it, and it makes you spend crazy amounts of money... my habit costs me about 140 dollars a week.

i wanted to post this not to brag, because this is not something to brag about, but in stead to try to help anyone that might be thinking about trying this drug... or any really addictive drug for that matter. It isnt worth it...

it causes a lot of depression, and when you dont have it, you pretty much cant do anything. it controls your life. your body NEEDS it, and you feel like complete shit without it, you don't even feel like getting up out of bed. please people, don't make my mistakes, learn from me.

anyway, i hope i can help some people by posting this.

good job retard, lets pull the ONE BAD THING in my life and try to say that my whole life is bad, i laugh at you sir.

yes, my family has a history of drug issues, it is genetic.

everything else in my life is way beyond anyone my age, go ahead and try to tell me it isnt.

you are just plain dumb for trying to pull what you just did.

tell me how you are doing when you are my age, lets see how that goes.

oh, and your life is perfect, you have no problems, and you never have right? god get a life.

One bad thing:
-Heroin addiction (impossible for me to stop without some perscriptions)
-spend crazy amounts of money (140/week, 560/month)
-it causes a lot of depression, and when you dont have it, you pretty much cant do anything
-it controls your life
-your body NEEDS it, and you feel like complete shit without it
-you don't even feel like getting up out of bed.

conclusion: please people, don't make my mistakes, It isnt worth it...]

You're right. Just one bad thing.

I don't really get grounded for talking back...mainly because I usually don't.

I do have to do chores with (also for no allowence).

It depends on the kid, so anyone's theories about whether being strict or not really doesn't matter. If you have a kid that wont shut up and keeps backtalking, you should smack him around a little. If he listens to what you say and does what you ask, then reward him or hold off on smacking him around. :P

ok, dom, tell me how all the things branching from one thing counts as more than one thing... its one thing. just because that one thing has other issues attached to it doesnt mean its more than one thing.

I got smacked around when I was younger, until I learned what was right, and what wasn't right. After learning the difference between good and bad, I never got punished. Just had the guilt inducing disappointed speech. Which of course, if you love your parents, is a million times worse then any beating.

That's what I was saying. You're right, it's just one tiny little thing.
