I'm going to get a new one.

Any recommendations? I don't plan to do much gaming on it (besides Stepmania), but decent graphics would be nice...

qft, and ibuypower is just really cheesy and cheap. Take it from a previous customer.

If you don't mind waiting a few days, I'd recommend singing up at slickdeals and getting email updates for notebooks. When you see a greally good deal that's within your pricerange, grab it.

The last deal I saw was a Core 2 Duo 2Ghz, 1GB RAM, 15.1", 160GB HD for $599. It's dead now, but there'll be another set of deals before the school season starts.

Also another great deal, if you're a university student apple gives out rebates on all their products and give you a free ipod nano.

Sucks for you then cause i know a few people who loves theirs. They arent cheap they are good quality, less you want a powerhouse and get a falcon northwest

Fixed. Your friends must not be knowledgeable then. Though I wouldn't say the company is bad, I wouldn't recommend them either.

Got ignorance?

That was a retarded statement. The quality of products is not dynamic, the newest processors may be better from intel, but on laptops they don't use cutting edge technology. What's important is to compare your options; if you have a newer more performant AMD over an old Intel, then it doesn't matter which one is on top right now.

example: you have this AMD laptop
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... 037&catid=

or this intel laptop
http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/prodde ... 061&catid=

You would pick the intel one, which is inferior, because intel makes a better processor at the moment?

My price range is anything not in excess of 3-4k

Thinking about one of those tablet laptops...

Do not invest heavily into a laptop. Unless you buy an extremely overpriced gaming one (note, that the 'gaming' ones you see from dell aren't what I mean) they will only be running integrated graphics cards with motherboard limitations, and non upgradability.

Buy a nice decent laptop, and invest in upgrading a desktop pc. You wouldn't be hardcore gaming sitting in a coffee shop with your laptop anyways.
