Hello,

I'm building a pure STR bow character and I'd like some advice on an imbue for it.

I know that in the high levels just about everyone is ice immune (I have a lvl 75 :)), so the logical choice would be to choose the fire imbue. But while I'm training up to the cap, which will take a HELL of a long time, won't it be more beneficial for me to use the ice imbue and give myself more time to kill the mob before it gets to me? Worst case, I can just farm a bit more at the cap and get the fire imbue as well.

Unless someone can make a compelling argument, I'm not planning on thinking about the lighting imbue.

Ideas?

I think you should NOT get lightning imbue, unless you want to be like npc thiefs.

Cold is good, fire is ideal. With the new strongbow update, you should be able to kill a mob with SB+AD, or something like that, using fire imbue, and they will die right at your feet.

So just don't do light

Why the HELL not lightning?

Parry decrease + Hawk + Passive = constant high hits. Why not lightning imbue?

Lightning damage with crit
4870
5120
4840
5100
4886
4940

Fire damage with crit:
4900
4960
4980
5002
4968

at least thats how ive seen it work, that one lightning super high crit is pretty nice, but fire still averages a higher crit.

yep with ligtning you CAN have higher crits in pvpe

however in pvp all people using pills....so you must really want a good timing (when your enemy is pilling away his status but it isn't gone yet)+and you must have a crit+it must be a high crit.....not one of 4800 if you can hit 5k+

so in pvp it sounds to me really useless to use ligtning imbue if you can use fire

someone did a test here, light imbue still had highest crit even without status effect. fire still has highest average and according to his test he critted the most using ice.

so according to that it was

highest crit = lightning imbue
highest average crit= fire imbue
most occuring crits= ice imbue

I am actually leveling my lighting imbue up, with the new skills I can kill mobs so much faster that I dont mind pulling them in with splash damage from the imbue.

In pvp, I really doubt you will notice such a big difference between lighting and fire. Both statusses are pilled away so fast that the effects they cause have almost no use.
Since a bow needs crits to kill fast, I will use my lighting imbue when it reaches higher levels. I rather crit awesomly high on times then average all the time >.<

I would pick Fire, They say Lightning does more crits, but i actually dont believe that. 1 guy tested it, I will only believe it when 10 guys can say me that lightning more crits and give me some proof.

Why pick Fire? More overall damage, so faster leveling. And i dont like to get mobbed, so. xD

Well i was also thinking of taking the light imbue, because the average dmg may would be even better than fire since light decreases your parry.

Besides fire is overrated ^^. There is no effect in pvp atleast not on higher levels, and the damage it does on mobs is weak..

Besides, lighting imbue looks cooler ^^.

And also, thinking about the 140 cap, I would pick lighting over fire always..

ice is good for pve if u have tons of mobs around u so u can tank them much better....though for pvp you dont even have to think twice....fire for sure unless someone actuly doesnt have ice imune then u pwn them...it uses around 22k sp to max out ice imbue so if u wanna farm the extra it would be very useful at low lvl pvp too

yea thats for fighting giants party mobs champs etc around ur level where you can decrease their parry and keep on long enough to make a difference.

in pvp its pilled away, just like a fires burn, but light still has nicer crits.

plus have you seen arrow combo with last book of lightning imbue???

So most people are saying go Fire. How about Cold as a sub-imbue? For the nubs who aren't immue :P

No offense to the lightning imbue users, but I just hate the look of it.

Some nice info to take in for ya ;)

Lightning's status effect is applied almost instantly before you hit him, and status pills don't react that fast. You will be getting a minimum of atleast one hit on shock status (likely more as the imbue will be applied)

Also, the lightning's splash does more than just damage. It also splashes status effects as well, including ice effects and stun. Yes, you can stun 3 people with splash.

Yes, I admit... I may be bias to light imbue. But only because I have tinkered with both fire and light imbues and came to my conclusion. In no way am I shooting fire down, or even trying to prove that light is better. I am only simply showing that lightning gets overlooked and FAR underrated.

That is all

I also think lightning is under-rated, in PvE the damage difference between light and fire imbues are very small (at least they are at low lvls, might increase more with higher lvl imbues). Of course in PvP that little extra dmg can be the difference between a win and a loss. And for a str build would the splash effect not be godlike for attracting mobs? Besides i LOVE the forks on that last book :D

If you look in my sig you can see the damage differences betweeen imbues. Remember as a pure str the difference will be even less for you. Ice is great for non immune people and if you like to grind on mobs considerably higher level then you.

Imbue does not effect critical!!! That also can be seen in the link in my sig.

Shock stats = Lower Parry Ratio = Higher Crits

That is not what parry reduce from lightning does. It allows you to hit closer to your max damage. It has nothing to do with critical. If you look at my imbue link in my sig you will see data backing this up.

Which inherently means consistently higher crits. Not necissarily higher than you could have gotten without the imbue.

Lighting causes the other person/mob have less parry ratio. Wich leads to you dealing more damage to it. Thus resulting in higher crits.

alright alright ive read all of the post leading up to mine and im sure this oen will be the post to end all posts in this topic ^^.

ok so first of, ice

ICE BLOWS!! period, no matter what spin you put on it ice wil never be as good as the other too for imbune (buffs are totaly different). sure you can freeze them, but if you have any other imbune you will kill them before they touch you.

lighting is what i use, i know most of you think it sucks cause it has a little less damage then fire.... BOO FLIPPIDY HOOO, it attracks way mroe mobs (which i like for my style grinding, i will get to that) it also reduces parry. now this may or may not effect critical idk because when i was using ice my bow had 2crit on it, sence i have switched to lightning i have also gotten a better bow which has 8crit. but you know how attacks very in damage no matter what, you can hit a 5k oine time then hit a 4.6 another with the same skill. well what parry does is allow you to hit those 5k shots mroe and those 4.6k shots less, keeps your damage consistent

fire is the shit when it comes to max damage.
everyone knows that, fire= most damage ever. which in pvp this will be good.

the status effects do not play any role in what imbune you shoudl pick, you shoudl chose based on yoru grind style. for me i liek to go to a crowded area where i can fight 5 monsters at onces constantly, more kills= more exp for me, the lighting really helps me with thatbecause of the damage transfer, and also in pulling mobs. but you might wnat to grind like a nuker might, meaning (using fire) you fight one mob at a time but kill them fast. or... you could do what most ppl do (using ice) and fight monsters 2-3 lvls stronger, mabey more, then you. this takes longer, but each kill gives more exp(as you undoubtably know alredy).

in short.... i am bias against ice jsut because it suks for damage and in pvp the effects are no help. as for fire or light, its up to you man. i suggest you go wtih what ever imbune fits yoru grind style.

but thats jsut my oppion ;)
