Quote: A Major Notice If you are behind a router you will need to port forward your router. To do this you can use a DMS. Its hard to explain as every router has a different interface ( homepage that has a different layout ) so i suggest you go to google and search portforward.com. It will teach you how to port forward your router there.
I actually have no idea wtf is port forwarding but i need to do it anyways, so im just gonna ask if theres any risks doing this..

DMZ completely removes your hardware firewall, forwarding ports removes your hardware firewall from those ports.
No danger, usually. Firewalls are useless to the home user. A firewall only protects from outside users trying to access your network. However, name me one hacker that wants to connect to YOUR computer; what is he going to do, steal your music and pictures of your dog?
Home users need Antivirus and Antispyware software. And someone who has any logic at all doesn't even need those.

well you are 'open' to attacks when you open your ports, but if you got a firewall and there's nothing interseting to get, you MOST LIKELY WONT get hacked.. Even w/o firewall, aint got one never been hacked..

well when you forward an port you allow all connections with that port which is usefull when using torrent...it will help you download/upload faster and there are no risks.to cancel the forwarded ports just restart your modem. its an complicated thing though...

Of course hackers aren't going to want to steal pictures of your dog. However, your system could be useful to spammers as a spam bot. People running botnets aren't going to care if their zombies are home user's systems, or corporate servers. They just want more nodes to add to their botnet.
So yeah dog pictures aren't the only thing someone could be after.

I've tried doing this in the past but didn't b/c I was scared or b/c I was lazy. Either way I did this last night and finally got my first green light/check on a torrent program. Damn did it ever make a difference. My u/l speed went up x4 and my d/l speed x2.
Kickin.
