2.5 + 2.5 = 5 :banghead:

Depends on the margin of error. Are you speaking in two significant digits? 2.5 can represent 2.54, so 2.5 + 2.5 = 5.08.

Numbers can be thought to represent points on a number line. Since there are an infinite number of points on a number line, the number 2 is just an approximation on that line. There are an infinite number of points between "2" and "3" so theoretically you could say 2+2=5 for exceptionally large values of 2.

+1

It'd be 6. FAIL

thats why stuff like 2+2 =5 happens.

numbers are abstract, and just like anything abstract dont have 2 exist as 1 states it does.

for example i am not sitting in this chair underneath my ass.
as a matter of fact this supposed chair does not exist.

get it??

meh GL for those who dont understand

also.
nah shes 17, but a senior 8)

hmmm we got some sensibly theories comin kinda.Anyways if the chair under your ass isnt real then your butt would be in pain as u wouldve fallen from the supposed non-existent chair unless u were standing.Your right i dont get it that much
:P :P.Im confused :cry:

im not standing nor sitting im floating....
as a matter of fact.

fact is not even a word :shock:

lol confuzziling peeps is fun

[dont wry i exist

2 + 2 = 5 ; eq 1

Using the complex plane to represent large values of 2

Z = x + yi

Z^2 = R ; let R be the real number 2

=> (x+yi)^2 = 2

=> 2xyi = 2 ; eq 2

=> xyi = 1

=> xy = -1 ; rearranging we get

=> y = - 1/x ; eq 3

subst eq3 into eq2

=> -2x/xi = 2

=> -2i = 2

=> -2i - 2i = 5

=> -4i = 5 ; eq 4

subst eq 4 into eq 1

=> 2 + 2 = -4i

=> 4 = -4i

Assume x<0, y<0, therefore we take absolute on both sides. Then ^2

=> |4^2| = |(-4i)^2|

16 = 16

therefore for large values of 2 under the complex plane,

2 + 2 = 5 ; when x<0, y<0

i^-1=-i, i^-2 would be -1, something I miss?

i is imaginary ie, it is the square root of -1

=> (-1)^(1/2) ; T,T i cant draw a square root.

So the square of i = -1

Edit: i think i got the step wrong, too lazy to check it over
Edit 2: it split to two solutions T,T its easier for me to work with pencil and paper.

A lot of these "proofs" are based on flawed math, but here's another one from http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=1006051531250

Dez (answers.yahoo.com) wrote:
Take any two ordinary constants. (e.g. x and y)
Make them alike, as in x = y = any non-zero number (in this case, 2)
Multiply each by y, but x works equally well (y²=xy).
Subtract x² from each equation (y²-x² = xy-x²).
Factor y²-x² into (y+x)(y-x) to make ((y-x)(y+x) = xy-x²).
Factor xy-x² into x(y-x) to make ((y-x)(y+x) = x(y-x)).
Divide by (y-x) to get (y+x=x).
Subtract x from both sides of this equation to get y=0.
This means that y=0.

but since, y equaled 2 in the first case, that means 2 = 0.
If you multiply this equation by 2.5, you get 5 = 0.

Since 0 + 0 = 0, you can plug in 2 for the first two zeroes, and five for the last one, and then, TA DA! 2 + 2 = 5.

I know that, but your equation is

xyi=1

xy=1/i

xy=i^-1

xy=-i
