Your talking about using 2 50 pound dumbells? Good luck. For a beginner you should start at like 20 lol.

Dom what are you using at 250? Benchpress? How much do you curl with dumbells?

+1, I didn't understand what dom was talking about.

If he says he can bench 250 and can curl 150, I don't believe him.
Curling is sooooooooooo hard.

My brother can bench 320 and can only curl like 140 I think. Although I'm not 100% sure.

Maybe dom just works his biceps though and not his triceps, which is not a good idea. Triceps are 2/3rds of your arm y'know.

Curling isn't hard with resistance training, the weight gets added fluidly instead of at once.

I should of said, I use a bowflex. I do all my exercises with 250, including the bowflex version of a bench press. I curl 150, but with resistance training.

Is a 250 on a bowflex equivilent to 250 on free weights?

yes, but the way it gets added is different. Because they're rods...the more they're bent the closer to 250 you reach. That means, when you start pulling it isn't as hard as when you're pulling the final couple inches.

I do 1 hour on a manual treadmill 6 days a week and every other day i do light weights for my upper body, push ups, and sit ups. If you really want a good workout at home get a cheap manual treadmill (around $100) it's around 4 times more effective than an electric treadmill in the same period of time. I started drinking protein shakes recently and i can definitely see the results that it has had on my muscles however I'm gonna cut down on them since i don't want to be all buffed up like a football player.

And if you want to take a giant leap from skinny to buff, take protein shakes, but theyre not for everyone..

wouldnt start going for shakes pills ect..
all natural imo

If you want to build up muscles, you'll need to eats enough proteins.
Low fat meat would be the best source.

BTW iirc there is a building muscle thread somewhere in the off topic lounge.
A quick search and you'll have a nice source of information.

Are you referring to my http://www.silkroadforums.com/viewtopic ... ght=muscle

That helped me quite a bit. Go and take a look. :]
Rainigul, just wondering - when you say 15 inch arms, does that mean if you take a measuring tape and wrap it around your biceps, it's 15 inches?
If so, then holy shittt.

I said literally.

How long do you lift weights for on each set? It's 30 seconds. You should do like 3 sets. that's 1:30 seconds. Each week you do about 6~ workouts, that's 9 minutes.
Buff in 9 minutes.

You don't know what you're talking about however, and you probably think that you gain muscle when you're lifting weights. Well, you're not. You're stimulating your muscles, and if you're doing it right, you should be getting weaker.
It's during rest periods that you get stronger.

lol, if u want to look like the hulk, go wit dom's idea.

i do 2-3 hrs per day, 3 times per week. work on everything upper body. just see what's comfortable for u. if u can do at least 10 reps on ur max weight, stick wit that for a week, then up the lbs the next week. keep on going till u'r satisfied wit ur weight/look.

oh yea, remember to get a friend to work out with u. u'll be working out + chatting. not as boring. also, find someone that won't drop out in the first two weeks.

remember, if u'r doing bench presses, have someone spot you. if ur friend isn't there, ask a random stranger in the gym. they'll understand and will most likely spot u.

when u'r doing reps, and u'r pushing urself to the max at the 8th or 9th time, keep going. u gotta stretch those muscles for maximum effect. don't just cop out when u feel ur muscles getting kinda tired, u gotta wreck those babies. dun worry, 24 hrs between work outs is plenty.

oh yea, drink lots of water during and after work out, and eat lots of food. doesn't matter what food.

+1.

Alot of people say to eat like carrots and shit, but that isn't gonna help very much. You should just eat whatever you'd normally eat, assuming it isn't total shit.

Though I do kinda disagree on 24 hours is enough time between work outs... I'd say 48 is better, but most people wait 5-7 days.
